BICYCLE ‘I NSPECTION (Continued 1 row "Pa are One) did drive at nig it. Generally', most of the students appreciated the importance of the inspection, some, however—perha >s because of their age-rwere apathetic. ' . j In a last m|iute [effort to [ get
thelc bikes in good shape for the inspection that was held at Lincoln school, more than 25 bicycle-owhers rushed to local seryice stations to get a nut tightened here, an adjustment there, demonstrating that the children respect the importance of the inspection. \| [ All the information,: ip the fotm of movies, literature and talks, was aimed at impressing the students With the importance of the more neglected—but. nevertheless vitally important-!—points of safe cycling. For example: (1) bicycle drivers fail to give right-dbway; (2) piany bicyclists do not signal intention of turning; (3) two jout of five fatal accidents occurred because there was no front or rear light on bicycle.; The forgoing examples are the reason why each year children between the ages of 12 and 14 are involved in approximately 42,000’ injuries and 600 deaths each year. Each bicycle that was to be * driven at night received five scotch stickers gs a reflective material that gives high visibility at night the least pit of light strikes it. ! The stickprs were so placed that the vehicle could be seen from virtually any angle. Thirty-six dollars was expended for the stickers, sl4 of which was contributed by the children themselves. ■' XOTICK TO CONTRACTORS Notice is hereby given that sealed proposals forth scraping, cleaning, an.d painting of various* bridges on the State Highway System, will be received by the Chairman of i the State; Highway Commission at hia office in the State Hbuse Annex, Indianapolis, Indiana, until 10:00 A.M. \Central Standard Time on' the 16th day of May, 1952, when all proposals will be publicly opened and read.
