Red Sox Take Second In Row From Yankees i New York. April 25 —(UP)— The Boston Red Sox, almost unnoti iced so far in the furor pver the i surprising showing of the St. Louis Browns, were blazipg along today at their fastest early (pace since 1946, the last year they wpn a pen- • nant. , It could be thgj&the Red Sox, and 1 not the Browns. Win turn out to be ! the ’‘surprise” outfit of the year. 1 Lou Boudreau, who never did ■ things according to the cohven- ! tional rules anyway, has been benching such talent as Ted Wil- ‘ liams. Vern Stepliens and occasionally Johnny Pesky and Billy Goodman, and he’s getting away with it. He knows! that Williams will be lost to marines next week anyway. Against the world champion Yankees, still the team that has tq be knocked down in the long run, the Red- Sox put on the pressure and won two key games in a row. ' Yesterday, winning their ninth game against only two losses so far, the Red Sox came from behind to top the Yankees, 3 to 2. in 11 innings. Once again rookies set the pace. Sammy White, the kid catcher, hit his first big league . homer in the fifth after New York took an early 2-0 lead against Matnw McDermott. Then in the 11th, he- singled off reliever Bob Kuzava -to touch off the winning rally; Doin DiMaggio singled and rookie Jim Piersail walked to load the bases and Goodman then welk- : ed to force in the decidipg tally. Rookiq Ivan Delock, pitching the top of the 11th, got in trouble then showed enough mettle to gain his first ( big league, decision by nailing ■ the dangerous Hank Bauer on a short fly and Striking out Mickey Mantle, both with the bases loaded. In the only other game played yesterday, the Braves wiped out a 3-0 deficit with a three-run rally in the eighth, then went on to beat the Giants. 6 to 3, in .the 10th as rookie reliever Lew Burdette pitched five scoreless innings. A two-run double by rookie Ed Mathews was the big blow in the final rally with Jack Cusiek’s long fly producing the third tally. With two out ip the eighth. Earl Torgeson tagged Max for a home run. then the Braves got two more on a single by Sid Gordon. a walk to Willard Marshall, a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Walker Cooper. Leo Duroener. the tiiar.t manager. forgetting his new-type good manners in a hit fifth inning rhubarb with umpire Art Gore, was tossed out for protesting an alleged quick pitch by lefty Warren Spahn. He claimed it should have been ruled a balk which would have enabled Bobby Thomson to score from third with what wxjuld have been the- winning run. The Detroit at St. Louis and Philadelphia at Washington games in the American league, and the Cincinnati at Chicago, Brooklyn at Philadelphia, and St. Louis at Pittsburgh games in the National were called off.\ >j r— <• ] Today's Sport Parade • (Reg. U. S. Pat. Off.) | By Oscar Fraley ;0 ' O New York, April 25-—(VP) —With the baseball season less than two ■ weeks old. manager Al Lopez of the I Cleveland Indians already has established a major league record for early shot putting of photographers—proving that all is not gold that glitters. The voluble senor witkithe flashy bridgework practiced golden I grin all spring as he predicted that i his able Indians would win the American league pennant —possibly going away. But the gold mvtheni thar dental Mils shot steely sparks as he gave lensmen the heave ho I after his mighty Indians were j walloped by the upstart St. Louis < Browns. , . “When we lose you just want to come in here and get our pictures to paste aIT oyer the papers,” Lopez snarled. < That, Dr. Lopez, is a brilliant deduction. { • It the good senor hadn't seen I through the photographers’ cruel I deception—practiced every day of | the baseball season but undiscovered until now—people might have thought the cameramen were there for some other realsops. The suspicion mifcht have lingered that they wanted a shot of Bobi Feller's magnificent torso ,for ’‘the' ■ body beautiful.” The lowa plowboy. who lias enough muscles to piill one, poses and postures magnificently in victory. Maybe some of our crude picture practitioners wanted to give t|ie paying customers a peek at him in pitching poverty. 1 Robert showed he was still rapid as he set the Browns down with ope hit. But it was an inning-opening triple,' the iun cbiuiiig home on' a I subsequent but. So when Cleveland.

Leo Durocher Up To Old Tricks Again New York, April 25—(UP) — Leo Durocher’k halo, worn so faithfully so long, wks penned at a precarious angle': today as the New York Giants’ manager iounded off at umpires in general and. Artie Gore in partk'Ular.’ : Durochei' was steaming because he claimed Gore and first-year umj p|re Augie Guglielmo had permitted pitcher Warren Spahn of the Boston Braves to eneak a “quick pitch” past Willie Mays in yesterday’s 6-3 Giant defeat. < The nejv Durocherls quick flashback to tie old Durocher was likely to cost ;hlni $25 once National league pnesident Warren Giles has finished teadrhg Gore’s report on the incident. \ ' ’ \ “Giles should throw his rule book out the yindbw because the umpires abide bjf it anyway,” Durocher • roared as he stomped about the' Giant clubhouse. “We’d be better 1 off without any umpires if they’rg going to operate this way.” ' ' J . I ’ ■ Leo, the lion again for a moment, insisted that Giles had warned his umpires of the very thing—the “quick pitch"—which] Spahn allegedly got «iway with, i '■ Durocher quoted the bulletin from Giles’ office, which he said all National league managers .received yesterday, as follows: ; ' “A pitch delivered before the batter is reasonably set in the batfer’s box is fijlly as dangerous as the so-called beanball and is to be pro- ' hihited." • "Mays definitely Was not ready

and was no(t expecting the pitch,” Durocher said. "Under such conditions, he could have been hit In the head and perhaps fatally injured.” 1 Durocher paused a ipoment to adjust his tbtterlng halo. Then: "I’m not complaining about the run we lost on the play,” he said. "I just want protection from such trickery fdr any batters,” Ninety-nine per cent o» the 500000 women enrolled in a home beauty course reported hips out of proportion to other measurements. That accounts for an American budget of nearly $300,000,000 for corsets and girdles,
