New York Welcome To Queen Juliana Ticker Tape Parade * Held Up Broadway New York, Apr.‘7 fl'P’t -Queen Juliana of the Netherlands got a royal welcome in a ticker tape parade up lower Broadway today, and then mdde a speech from city hall suggesting a world-wide program to see that people had “a c pot to be alone” in a gadge't-rua world. l“We have too little space and too little time, and therefore ’he tension; of our nerves becomes too great.” .she told a crowd of well wishers in city hall plaza, where she was presented the municipal medal of horioj- and a scroll for distinguished a-nd exceptional puntic service by ..Mayor Vincent Impeljetteri. Braving damp breezes and over.cast skies in a r turquoise sijk embroidered dress and jacket. she rode in an {open car with her consort,- Prince Bernhard, and Grover Whalen, chairman of the mayorts reception committee. Brass bands blared and torh paper ticker tape showered from the skyscrapers. The slow-moving cars halted briefly at qpposife. historic St. Paul's Chapel where the queen was greeted by a delegation of ’Dutch Reformed church ministers, then inqved on through cheering noontitre crowds of city hall. Smiling and informal, jthe queen, who writes her” own speeches, skipped the usual generalities about world 'cooperation and gave some homey advice oh 1 relieving uervous tension. i "While on the one hand, gadgets make life ea-b;r,_ on the other 1 and they tend to reduce men and women to the status of mere numbers and robots,” she said in her faultless English. .The program she suggested wuold see that ‘everyone should tt;y to find a spot to be alone, in order to have a proper opportunity to iconcen•rate and to think of everything an fdult and responsible person should think about.” She appeared to enjoy her chilly ride from the tip of Manhattan to city hall. She smiled and waved frequently to the office workers who crowded the sidewalks. The W.S.C.S. will have a sacrificial luncheon Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the First Methodist church. Mrs. Lowell Smith will give the sefmonnette, Mrs. Watson Mattox will give tire devotions and Mrs. Harry Dailey and Mrs. Anna Marie Webb will provide the mmusic.
