I Comments zMI r On S.S.' .Srfrm IL LessonjGglga Creamed comments on the Sunday schol lesaou. A Fellowship ot Many Folowers, John 15:5-9; Philippians 2:14-16; Romans 16:1-7, for Sunday, Apirl 6; The past quarter a study of Christian leaders was made, and now in this lesson sincere fellowship is taught as not only a bond between Christians hut as the source for strong Christian characters demonstrated in Christian service under difficulties. V,5. “I am the vine, ye are the branches; he that abideth in me, and I in b tan bringeth forth mucu fruit; but withput me ye can do, nothing.” Christian character is rooted in Christ; in the preceding verse a purging process Is taught whereby self is eliminated making a place for Christ at! the center ofj {One's thoughts, alma motives, and will. Close relationship is main jained only when , the individual sees to it that Christi is at the center; to do this calls for a Christian to use all available means of grace faithfully. The purpose of thia close relationship is in good works. Note that good works is a result and not a means of salvation. V- t 6? “If a man abjde not in me, he is cast forth as a branch and is withered; and men gather them and cast them ijnto the fire, • ;iand they are .burned.” If* through Neglect or sin on our fellowship with Christ, is; broken, then; we become spiritually dead and! fruitless; but the viorst of it ip that eternal destiny is terrible. No soft-peddling will change final results which is of one's own choosing. Not to acept thia fact is to belive universal salvation with no need of the atoning work of Christ. I | V.7. “If ye abide in me and my words abide in you. ye shall ask what ye will, and it; shall be done unto you." Chirbt Ivithin as an abiding presence intercedes for that soul in the abiding process and he becomes one with the Lord. V.B. "Herein is my Father glorified that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.” The outstanding fruit of a soul abiding in Christ is soul-winning and building Christians in Christian faith

as taught in the great commission. V. 9. “A* the Father hath loved me. so have I loved you; continue | ye in ay love.” It takes the love of God for the felowshlp to flow through from God to man and from man to man. This love is from God; it is the gift of obedient tatth. V,14. “I* ail things without maxmuring* and dtvputlngs." Just a little grumbling has a bed efect bn the soul life for Ln time it will come out in axpreeed dissatisfaction, quarrelling, etc, Here is a sign of self coming back. V. 15. “That ye may be blame- : less and and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke in the midat of a crooked and perverse genera- ] tion, among whom ye shine as lights In the world.” Persecutions i were very common but a light shines brightest in the dark. In < time the one who endures persecution will rise above it all . and prove there is something in Christianity that can be explained only I by the fact of a right relation with Christ. . [ < V. 16, “Holding forth ! the word Os life; that I may rejoiice in the day of Chirst. that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain ” There is a close identity between the word of God and Christ; so that by bolding on to the Word one holds on to Christ. The one ' who presents the word ot God to others shares in the blessings that 1 follow. : Vs. 1, 2. “‘I commend tinto you Phebe my sister, which is a servant of the church. That ye receive 1 her In the Lord, as becometh 1 saints, and that. ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need ' Os you; has beep a succour of many and of myself also." ; Paul no the preceding ' versea. Phebe was a consecrated ’ Christian woman full ot good 1 works, a blessing to Paul and many others. The same thought is carried in the following verses of this leu- 1 soln; each one had a special Christian work but they did it j Their names are not very prominent but they are accorded a place with the greatest.
