Jackets Edge Out Garrett By 58 To 57 Decatur’s Yellow Jackets put on a real thriller for the fans in their closing game of the season Friday night, squeaking out a 58-57 decision over the Garrett Railroaders on the DecAtur court. And fittingly enough, it was Jim Moses, playing his last regular game as a Yellow Jacket, who tossed in the winning field goal with only about; two seconds to play. The victory was only the fifth of the season fqr ’ Decatur, and their second in Northeastern Indiana conference competition, leaving Garrett the lone occupant of the loop cellar with seven NEIC losses and no victories. * Both teams started slowly, with only seven points scored in the first four ininuths, Decatur leading by 5-4. The game picked up tempo in a hurry, however, par ticularly on the part of the Railraoders, who zoomed into a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Jackets took over in the second period, paced by Moses' 11 points, and overcame the Garrett bulge to hold a two-point margin, 31-32, at the long rest period. The teams were tied at 34-34 and 36-36 before the Yellow Jackets moved into six-point advantage, 46-40, midway through the! third period. The visitors then hit three in a row to knot the score at 46-46. Moses hit two field tosses but Jack Lumm hit twice from the field to regain the lead but Gene Morrison’s two-pointer knotted the count at 50-50 going into the final eight minutes of play. Decatur took a four-point margin on a fielder by Moses and foul tosses by Morrison and Ferris Kohne, but Garrett fought back, finally taking the lead at 57-56 on Jack J Williams’ fielder.
