HAVE JOINT MEETING The Kirkland Township W.C.T.U. met recently with the Missionary Society of the Antioch church. The all day meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Null, with twenty-one members present/ Devotions were given by Mrs. Edith Houck after the group sang “Help Somebody Today.” Mary Yake gave several interesting readings about Abraham Lincoln. The lesson on “Alcoholism; a vice-generated disease,” was given by Edna Shady. Sewing was done during the remainder of the meet-
ing and the group knotted a comforter for a family who recently lost their home by fire. s HOME ECONOMIC GROUP ENTERTAIN HUSBANDS The members of the Root township Home Economic club entertained their husbands at a carryin dinner at the Monmouth s&ott Tuesday evening. A very interesting and informative talk was ijriven by John Gordon, telling of the seven and one half years he in Alaska. He- also showed motion pictures of Alaska ahd displayed his collection of rare\ carved ivory woven baskets and other articles made by the natives \\ Door prises were Won by Fred Kunkel ahd Richard The Mesdames Kenneth Runyon. Nivan Miller, Ed Peck, Wilson Beltz and Frank Singelton were In charge of the program. RESEARCH CLUB IS ENTERTAINED Mr. and Mrs. Reid Erekson delightfully entertained the memers of the Research club and their guests Monday at the club’s annual guest day luncheon, held at the Zion Lutheran hall. Mrs. J. W. Calland,' chairman of the guest day committee, introduced Mr. and Mrs. Erekson. who then entertained the crowd by reading scenes from George Bernard Shaw’s plays: “CeaEiar and Cleopatra/’ “Man and Superman," and “Candida." Preceding their reading, Mr. Erekson spoke briefly upon Shaw's importance as a modern playwright. The luncheon tables were attractively decorated in a patriotic motif. After Mrs. F. H. Willard gave the invocation, Mrs. O. H. Haubold, president of the Research club, welcomed the guests. Mrs. Leo Saylors was in charge of the decorations and M;rs. J. J. Thompson handled reservations. Other mem* ers of Mrs. Calland’s committee were Mrs. Willard, Mrs. J. L. Krider, and Mrs. E. H. Cook. Sixty seven persons attended the affair. GECODE CLUB ENJOYS GUEST NIGHT PARTY i Sixty-nine members and guests of the Gecode club attended the club’s annual guest night party at the Moose home last night. Husbands and sweethearts of the members were invited and special guests were Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Lankenau and Mr. and John Welch. BETHANY CHURCH CLASS HAS PARTY TUESDAY The Kum-Join-Us class of tbU Bethany Evangelical United Brethren church held a sweetheart party at the parsbnage Tuesday evening. Devotions were led by Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Alger, with the theinte “When faith is lost, when honor dies, the man is dead." The group sang “My Faith looks to Thee," and* scripture for the evening was taken from the second chapter of James. A review of the article, “This is our Greatest Danger,” from “The Return to Morality," by Charles W. Tobey, followed with prayer, completed the devotional period.
