Commodores Defeat Jefferson Warriors
11 '■ 1 ■ / "» i'S Commodores 1 • Win Thursday Night, 38-35 Despite their failure to score a •ingle point in the entire final quarter of play, the Decatur Commodores hung on to defeat the Jefferson Warriors, 38-35, at the Decatur high school gym Thursday bight.* f ' ' Ths victory also snapped a sixgame losing streak for the Commodores. 1 Decatur held sn y U-point lead at 38-37 entering the final eight minutes of, play. The Commodores played pretty much of fan* in the last period blit still ad a number of gpod shots, several wide open underneath but pone of which connected. The Comfnodores also missed four free |hrow chances in the period but took the ball out of bounds on a number of opportunities from the charity stripe as Jeffefspn fouled repeatedly ip vain efforts to gain possession of the ball. It was a ragged ball game all the way, with Decatur on top from thp first score. This, incidentally, took three minutes of the tilt before Louie Laurent hit a field goal • for the Commodprefe, who held a 12-7 lead at the fir/tt period. The teams still couldn’t hit*ta the second quarter, Dechtur counting seven points and ttiC Warrior*?, only five as the Commodores were in front, 19-12, at the htfjf-time Intermission. The scoring tempo ,-picked up considerably in the third stanza, the Commodores tallying 19 points all but two by Laurent and Fran? cis Coyne, and Decatur had that 11-point bulge they so korely needed in the final eight minutes of play. I Laurent led the Coihmodores’ scoring with 18 points and Coyne tallied 12. Dick Butcher 'was high for Jefferson with 12. Bfth teams had bad nights at the soils line, the Commodores converting only 12 of 35 attempts, and Jefferson only *» nine of 28. » f - - The Commodores ''U'Mj': enter tasi Mt 6Uf THUM fi £TC*
