KIRKLAND LADIES CLUB HAS MEETING • The January meeting of the < Kirkland Ladies* club was held Tuesday evening at the high school with twenty-six members present. The business meeting was conducted by the new president, Mrs. Ada Kolter. Members recited the club creed in unison and the song of the month, “Keep the Home Fires Burning” was sung by the group, led by Mrs. Edna Shady. Devotions were given by Mrs. Ella Scherry followed by a reading by Mrs. Vickie Stoneburrier. Plans were discussed • for the club to serve the dinner at the Adams Central institute January 29. The lesson, broiler meals, was presented by Mrs. Edna Shady and Mrs. Nellie Schlickman. Mrs. Margaret Hetrick, president conducted a short business meeting. At I roll call , current events were given by the members. Sigma Phi sonority met Wednesday evening at the home of Mias Ava Kraft with Mrs. Robert Hess, president, conducting the business meeting. * Mrs. Max Moser reported on the budget plan for the coming' year and members voted to purchase a health bond. A donation was given to the Women’s club for this Korean cause. . ' _ • The cultural lesson was on "Before an Audience” with the following topics presented: "PJatfom by Mrs. Moser; "Gesture” by Mrs. John Holthouse and. "Delivery of : Speech” by Mrs. Arthur Wilson. Devotions and scripture reading were tn charge of Mrs. Phil Macklin. The evening’s subject was "YourFaith, Their Lives.” Miss Kay Alberson was narartor and Mrs. D. A. Swickard was program chairmah. A business session followed the program and benediction was given by the Rev. A. C. E, Gillander. The Ruth circle acted as hostess and served refreshments at the close of the meeting. ADAMS CENTRAL PTA IN MEETING MONDAY The Adams Central P.T.A. meeting was held Monday evening In the high school gym. Group singing, led by Martin Steiner, opened the meeting. Rev. Mishler, pastor pt the Pleasant Dale church of the Brethren, gave the devotions. Rev. Thomas Adler is teacher. A piano duet was played by Linda Reber and Cecelia Lehman; piano soloists were Annette Thomas and Carolyn Mitchel. A selection was played by the high school band and an aoeordiea solo was givfir by Kay Singleton, followed by a trumpet solo by Gary McMillen. Two selections were sung by the Pleasant Dale men’s chorus directed by Rev. Mishler. The progfam closed with a round table discussion on the following topics: “How Can Parents Help Children Apply Themselves; Help Children Apply Themselves? Attendance; Helping Children with Home Studies; New Report Cards; Would it Be Possible to Have a Rental System at Adams Central?" The leaders in the discussion were Mrs. Flo Brandt, f Mr. Gene Hike, Miss Patricia Reed, Willis Roberts, Mrs. McKean, Mrs. Cu W. R. Schwartz, Mrs. Chris Inniger, Mr. Hartzler, Mrs. Russell Mitchell and Robert Brown. A social hour was enjoyed at the close of the meeting. The next meeting will be a county wide affair Feb. 21 at seven thirty o’clock; in the Decatur high school gym-! nasium. — The Eagles Auxiliary will hold a formal initiation of new members at Eagles hall in this city Tuesday night at eight o’clock. » The Philo class of the First Baptist church will in the social rooms of the church on Fourth street Friday night at seven-thirty o’clock.
