Yellow Jackets Lose To Huntington Team
Badly Crippled Jackets Lose To Huntington The Decatur Yellow Jackets. Ladly crippled by the absence of two regulars, were defeated by the Huntington Vikings, 61-33, at the Huntington gym Tuesday night. Jim Moseg, only regular from Tagt season’s team, and the Jack* els' high scorer this year, was unable to make the trip because of an attack of' the flu and an ankle injury, and Petrie Kdhne, regular forward, also did not make the trip because of a back injury. The Vikings took command of the game in the first quarter, rolling up an 18-4 advantage as pecatur'a only scoring cgme on a field goal by Norm and. free throws by Kent Koons and Gene Vetter. Hum paced the Vikings ■with six field goals. ■. Huntington increased its margin to 29-12. at the hal£time intermis- ■ sion as the Jackets were held to one field goal, each by Vetter, Sc hieferstein. Gene Morrison and Dick Duff. The Yellow Jackets trimmed their deficit to 10 points early in the third period butt he VikingA again pulled away to hold a 49-27 bulge at the end of the quarter., Hum and Handwork each tallied 16 pdlnts to lead Huntington to victroy. Schieferstein * was Decatur's top scorer with nine points. The Jackets converted only seven the third period but the Vikings made good en 13 of 23 attempts. The Yellow Jackets face one of tfeir toughest battles of. the season Friday night, when they entertain the powerful Auburn Red Devils at the Decatur gym in a Northeastern Indiana conference engagement. St. Joe, Commodore Freshmen Winners St. Joe eighth grade detected Monmouth junior high, 42-23, and the Commodore freshmen downed the Monmouth freshmen, 37-18, in a double header played at the Commodore gym Tuesday afternoon. St. Joe led at all periods, 8-1, 20-7 and 34-10, as Faurote and Wilder paced the scaring with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Schnepf was high for Monmouth With Id. In the freshman game, the Commodores were on top at all periods, 12-5, 14-10 and 22-14. Zeser and Vpglewede tallied 11 and 10 pointe for the winners, with Fuhrman leading Monmouth with six. St. Joe will play Blue Creek Wednesday and Decatur Junior high at the Lincoln gym in a city series game Friday afternoon.
