Commodores Lose To HartSord Gorillas

jCommodores Use In Close / . .1 * Tilt4o-36 The Hartford Gorillas, losers ot only one game all season long, caAie mighty close to defeat in flr,t start since winning the Adams county tourney last week, when they barely edged out the , Decatur Commodores, 40-36, at the Docatur gym Thursday night. It was a close, rugged battle all the way, with defense predominate toss- 'iHartford took early leads of ©■3 tend 1(N», but the Commodores pulled up within three points at 14-11 at the first quarter. The two teams scored only 12 points in the second period. The Commodores moved into the lead at 17-16 on Louie Laurent’s field goal. Another two-pointer by - Francis Cogne made the advantage three points but Jer*y Augsburger cut the margin to one point, 19-18, the half. The Commodores led all the way through the third quarter, at owe time boosting their margin to five pointe at 28-23, but Dick Ziegler hit a pair from the field to I rim Decatur’S lead to 28-27 going Into the final quarter. i Jim McCune’s free throw knotted the count at 28-28. Steve Gass and Siegler traded field goals. AugsI »tikger put ’ Hartford in front but toyne again tied it. Gene Ndll and red Gage swapped fielders and he game was again tied at 34-34. With five minutes to play, Laurent committed his fifth personal and Jack Meyer converted the foul toss to put the Gorillas on top, “ 35-34. Augsburger added another free throw and Meyer hit from the field to give Hartford a 38-34 lead with two minutes to play.
