I Jacobs Willing To Be Senale Candidate Wants McHale Out As Committeeman Indianapolis, Jan. 17—(UP)— Former congressman Andrew Jacobs said today he wpul£ accept the Democratic nomination for U.f?? senator from Indiana if national committeeman Frank McHale is booted out of his Job and it is given to Gov. Henry F. Schricker. Jacobs believes those developments are “highly probable”—sometime jn May. If Jacobs is nominated, he will run next November against Sen. William E. Jenner, who announced last week he would seek another term. Senators traditionally are unopposed for renomination in second-term bids., ,“I don’t know of anybody I’d rather run against,” Jacobs said. Jacobs, who was defeated in his bid for re-election to the house frbm the 11th- district (Marion county) in 1950, added, however, that i“as long as Franp McHale is national committeeman, I don’t want a nomination for anything.” He\ said a “majority” of Hoosier Democrats want Schricker tof take over the national committee post and there is “no question" but that he would. J' “Tluy would like very - much for Schricker to run for the senate,” Jacobs said, “but he’s told me he ijot dray would not run but that he could not 5 be induced to run.” “But I think he has enough interest in the party that he will accept the national committee post when the time comes," he added. Jacohs described hhnself as “a very unambitious man” and said he would not consider bis candidacy “until matters pertaining to the organization have been straightened out” and Indiana Democrats “have a loyal organization.” He said the Democratic national committeeman from Indiana should be “someone who would lend honor
