The bodies of four small children, their throats slashed by a carving knife, lay in a military morgue today as doctors pulled theii\ riiother through an unsuccessful suicid.e attempt, Second Lt. Joseph P. Coonan of Lancaster, Pa., found the bodies of his children on a. blood-stained bed in his small apartment last night. His wife, Mrs. Louise Coonah, of York. Pa., was unconscious on the bathroom floor with a ragged w’ound in her throat. Coonan screamed and staggered io the street to summon military ’police. He was talking hysterically when they arrived,. Col. Frank Reece, Fort Knox provost marshal, was unable to get any: information from Coonan and sent him-to the post hospital ter be treated for shock. Hospital authorities said he was released today. Mrs. Coonan apparently attempted t,o kill herself with the carving Knife, Reece said. She Stumbled Into the bathroom and attempted io drink a disinfectant (Lysol) but could swallow Only a small pbrtion of the fiery liquid because of the slash in her throat. It was pumped from her stomach. . \ Mrs. Coonan was given first-aid treatment at the apartment by a next-door neighbor, a military doctor. and taken to the post hospital. Her condition was first reported “critical,” but she received whole blood during the night and authorities said she -would live. She was too ill to be questioned. Before Coonan left the apartment to walk to an ambulance, he clutched a group picture of the children — Constance L., 4: Joseph P. Jr., 2; Claire, 1, and Patricia Marie, 4-% months —to his chest. Then he put the photograph' in his shirt pocket. ■

County Entertainment Festival Is Planned Prior to World War 11, gays county agent L. E. Archbqld. county, district, and state entertainment festivals were a very popular phase of the extension Undoubtly these entertainment festivals will be revived in 1952. It is suggested that in the county festival that a curtain act would consist of entertainment by not more than five representatives? of 4-H or rural youth groups for a maximum pt five minutes. A grp(ip act would be presented by not less than five representatives of pne or more rural organizations fdr a maximum of 12 minutes. Last year the township extension representatives were responsible for the /evening entertainment at the couirty 4-H club show. She county extension ejommittee has asked them <o be responsible for this part ,of the 4-|H club show August 5. 6. and 7. The county extension oflfice is asking that the gv'ening entertainment program at the 4-H club show be considered as an elimination contest. If this idea is adopted, the Adams county entry for, district curtain aud group gets would be selected in Monroe August 5. 6, and 7. , Bake Sale, 9:00 a.m. Saturday, At Schafers, Sponsored by Immanuel Walther league. 13t3x i.
