Mrs. Herald Welty read the Christmas story from St. Juke and used as her topic “Why We Have Cnristmas.’* Mrs. Eugehe Beam read a story and several poems on the birth of Christ and the group sang “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem.” The annpal gift exchange then held and names of new secret pals were drawn. | ' 1 PH I LATHEA CLAM HAI I CHRISTMAS MEETING Eighteen members of the Phllathea class of the First Baptist church were entertained with a carry-in chicken dinner at their Christmas meeting last evening. The dinner was served from tobies I beautifully decorated in Ynlttide ' appointments by Mrs. Wilbur Stanley, Mrs. David ißoth, Mre. Frank Morrison, and Mrs. Cal Peterson. ’ The program was in charge of Mrs. C. E. Bell and Mrs. Roy Johnson and the table hpmmiUee was composed of Mrs. Maude Merriman and Mrs. Bess Johnson. Mrs. John Metzger opened the meeting with a piano -solo, “Silent Night” and Mrs. Peterson gave a reading, “The Little Star.” Mrs: Robert Hammond showed an inter esting film on the “Childhood of Christ.” The collection amounted to 118.60. Games and contests were enjoyed and Allie Noll won the door prize. Announcement ygaa made that those who have paid their dues for the entire year by December 31 will be eligible for a drawing to be held at the first meeting in January. ?• The next meeting will be formal initiation on December 27 at the Moose home. MISSIONARY SOCIETY CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON Members of the Zion Lutheran Missionary Society enjoyed a one o’clock, luncheon and Christmas party Wednesday in the parish hall/ A number of guests were present * Group singing of “Oh. Little Tovra of Bethlehem” proceeded the luncheon, with the pastor, the Rev. Edgar P. Schmidt, offering the prayer. In keeping with the season the long dining tables were decorated .with poinsetta plants and white candles tied with red bow's. Favors of miniature snowmen marked each )>lace. Following the luncheon the pastor gave an interesting account of Christmas j customs down through the ages. The retiring president, Mrs. Theo. Witte, welcomed the guests and thanked the mem<bers for their cooperation during the past year. During the social hour the exchange gift* were distributed. The committee in charge of the program was Mrs. Lawrence* Schroeder, Mrs. Karl Reinking and Mrs. D. H. Callow. The hostesses were Mrs. Phil Sauers, Mra.
