Two Indiana Prison Officers Suspended / Gave Special Favors To Wealthy Inmate Michigan CRy, Ind., Nov. 29— (UP) —The acting deputy warden of the Indiana state prison and an* other. official have been suspended during an investigation of reports that special favors were shown a . wealthy inmate, warden Alfred Ft Dowd revealed today. Badman Billy Cook Sentenced To Death Sentenced To Die ' In Gas Chamber El Centro, Calif., Nov. 29.—(UP) —Mass murderer Billy Cook today faced death in the state’s lethal gas chamber for the sixth slaying in his bloody crims career, but. his attorney said the gunman’s fate might be undecided for a long time. The 23-year-oid Missouri badman was sentenced to death by superior judge Luray Mons&r yesterday for the murder of traveling salesman Robert Dewey of Seattle, Wash., on the California desert last January. Ths killer was scheduled to be taken to San Quentin prison within 10 days to await the results of an automatic review of the sentence by tbt state supreme court. But his attorney, John Connblly, said in Oklahoma City that he would appeal the. conviction and fight to keep California from executing Cook until he has “compldb ed” his 300-year federal prison term for murdering five members bf the Carl Moeser family of Atwood, 111. Connolly said he believed it would be a long time before Cook’s fate would be decided finally.
