Dinner Dance Held For New Initiates Party Is Held Last \ ; Night By K. Os C. ■■■ Approximately 200 meinbersand their lady guests attended the post-initiation dinner dance of the Knights of Colqmbus last evening. The newly {initiated members *erp guests of council. Robert BrieQe of KplamazooL Mich., a member of the local R. of C. council, was tqastmjistsr. falter Heimann, grand fchight, pressed. The Rev. J. Roesler. pastor of St. church, Blufftoh, gaye a talk \op the "Merits of good example.” Charles BJlsloe of Fort Wayne, gave ah interesting talk on hiß seeihg-ejFe dog, which escorts hijn on his walks. The dinper was prepared byMrs. Joseph Laurent and Mrs. Joseph Brennen's catering service. Lecturers Ralph Loshe and Beij Webster were in charge of arrangements. Following the dinner Bob Johnson’s orchestra provided music for dancing. Mrs. L. A. Holthouse was. the accompanist during the community singing program. \ ‘ ——— ■ BRITISH (Continued From Page One) to work. the polls will close at 9 p. m. (3 p. m. CST), the outcome of Britain’s second general election in 20 months probably will not be certain until late Friday (mid-day Friday EST.) Only 322 election districts wijl count their ballots tonight. The remaining 298 will tally up their votes tomorrow. Under similar circumstances in February J9sb. labor did not clinch its six-seat majority in commons until the evening of the day following the elections. Responsible members of both parties agree that the worst that could come. from today’s voting would be victory for either party by such a slim margin as labor eked out in 1950. It would hamstring the new government just as it has frustrated Attlee’s administration. Abstentions or, absences during a crucial vote could bring a cabinet’s downfall. Britain’s plight is close so desperate. If Churchill wins, he very likely will go to Washington again to seek more Amerlcan-’aW. also has promised to go to Moscow, if necessary, to argue with Generalissimo Josef Stalin for peace. , ' If You Have Anything To Sell Try A Democrat Want Ad —It Pays

v ft' ft ft ft "> \ Balloon Released v Here Found Along Lake In Ontario Tim Sprague, of 1125 West Jackson street, is a man convinced that a itttle bit \of hot air can go a long way. In? fadt. he knows it can start in Decatur and In a few hours be in Canada. That's almost faster than 4 cold front can move in. But Sprague has evidence. At* least he had it; he Indicates he’ll probably? let it prove another point or two for him. For the other day, Saturday evening about 5 o’clock in fact, Sprague sprung loose a gas-filled balloop from the west part of town. It was one he had obtained from the country fair sponsored by the MethOdist church last week. He stuck a pietce'of adhesive to the balloon, with his name and address on it, and let it fly. Tuesday he received a letter fpom Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Coats, 11903 Road, St. Clair Shores,\ , Mich., -explaining how they found tihe balloon as they Were walking - i Song the shores of Lake Erie in - Morpeth, Ontario, Canada. They, discovered the balloon, they wrote, lying on a twig sticking from <.the side of a cliff, near the bottom, about three feet from, the water. It w(as-'fpund Sunday. Morpeth, the writer of the letter explained, is a small town on highwpy 3, M>out 60 miles from Windsor . pp the Way to Toronto and Niagara Falls. , • J i The balloon, Sprague explained, |js about 18 by 12 inflated, and he intends setting It afloat again. The last -tihie he did it there was a northwesterly wind; there’s no telling what direction hoi air will go a second tipie.
