PLEASANT MILLS WSCS MEETING ON THURSDAY The Pleasant Mills Methodist Woman’s Society of Christian Service met Thursday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Fannie Nyffeler. Mrs. Lee Custer gave the devotions and the lesson of “Christian Missions and Human Rights." She also read the song "The Kingdom of God.” The society gave recognition to two charter members, Mrs. Frank Steele and Mrs. Albert Mauller, who both observed' their fifty-fifth wedding anniversaries. At the business meeting plans were made to hold a bake sale ’ November 17 at Schafer’s Store instead of having a Thanksgiving Refreshments were served to eighteen members and two guests by Mrs. Nyffeler, Mrfc Fred Bauman and Mrs. Elmer Golliff. Bell were hostesses for the October meeting of : the Philathea class of the First Baptist church, held last evening in the social rooms of the church, p t The opening prayet was offered by Mrs. Robert Hammond and devotions were, conducted by Mrs. Esther Young. The business meeting was presided over by Mrs. H. N. Shroll. Collections amounted to $9.60. 1 ' ‘ U ‘ Mrs. Hope Myers, program chairman, presented two jcontests and prizes were won by Mrs. Sylvia Parmer arid Mrs. Hajnnfond. Mrs, S. E. Hite, who is observing her birthday anniversary today, was presented a lovely pitted chrysanthemum by Mrs. C. E. Bell. Who then led in prayer and in singing "Idlest Be The Tie. 4 'Refreshments in Halloween appointments were served at a long table where the fourteen members and two guests were ieated; Guests were Mrs. Fields and'Mrs. Beam. GIRL SCOUT ASSOCIATION MEETS LAST EVENING The Girl Scout association, composed of the members of the Gl>l Scout council and all the Girl Scout leaders and co-leaders. met at the American Legion hohie on Friday night, with Mrs. T. d Smith, president, presiding. Durtng the business session reports were given by thq various committee chairmen. Filial plans were made for) the observance of Girl Scout week, which is October 28 to November 3. The association is asking the cooperation of all parents of Brownies and Girl Scouts In the signing of permission slips for any outside activity, such as hikes and parties. This is a rule of the national organization of Girl Scouts and must be carried out. No Qirl Scout leader is allowed to take any girl on any outside activity without a permission slip signed by ohe of her parents. ,At the close of the meeting refreshments were served by the following, committee: Mrs. Warren Lehman. Fourteen clubs will be represented at the third annual affair, being held at th’e Waldorf Astoria Hotel. The opening luncheon, "Sidewalks of New York,” w’ill feature L. R. Boulware, vlcejjresident* of employe and plant community relations as guest speaker. Ab Martin, works manager, and 1.. HFreeman, supervisor of personnel, both of the Fort Wayne works, will speak at the "Hattie Carnegie” luncheon Sunday.
