skis are trying to assimilate thejn-i selves to their new lives. But the greatest problem faced by any member of the family is perhaps that of Jadwiga’s education. There are so many barriers. One day in her class —she is taught by Sister Amelia —Jadwiga tried to teach the rest of the children a game she had learned in Germany, was the impossible progeria, sW the game will have to wait until a later date. But there pre other games, other days. Perhaps it is only the adults who are too concerned about Jadwiga’s lack of English. To six-year-olds, the language of play is universal and childish friendships don’t need words but rather an understanding glance. ' . ; Those come sometimes in the evening when Jadwiga alights f(om the school bus that lets her but near her home. For then she can be seen waving at her new friends.
