Mrs.'Freeman Stepler and Mrs. Carl Bieber’ich will serve as counsellors for the guild. SALEM MEETS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The Salem Methodist Woman’s Society of Christian Service met on Wednesday afternoon ‘at the home of Mrs. Charles Burkhart. The devotions were given by Mrs. Morris Miller and the group was led in prayer by Mrs. Shady. Mrs. Austin Merriman read articles from the World Outlook. A brief business meeting was conducted by Mrs. Claude Foreman and the meeting dismissed with the Lord's Prayer. During the social hour refreshments were served to sixteen members and guests.

MISSIONARY SOCIETY HAS BIRTHDAY PARTY Thirty \ members of the Zion Lutheran Missionary Society met in the: parish hall auditorium Wednesday afternoon for their annual birthday party. The meeting opened with the hymn, V'Boldiers of the Cross, Arise.” Scripture reading and prayer were given by the pastor, the Rev. Edgar P. Schmidt, who also presented the mission topic. The discussion was interspersed with -appropriate ‘Scripture rea'ding by members of the society. Mrs. Theo. Witte presided at the business session, at which time it was .announced that plans are being formulated for a golden anniversary celebration December 2. The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. Refreshments were served from tables; decorated with fall flowers and tall candles and centered with a beautifully decorated birthday cake, donated by Mrs. James Wall and awarded as a door prize to Mrs. Edwin Bauer. The committee planning the affair were Mrs. Lawrence Schroeder. Mrs. Doyt and Mrs. Karl Reinking. Hostesses serving refreshments Were Mrs. Ernst Ehlerdfog, Mrs. Lloyd Bowman, Mrs. -Wilbert Steele and Mrs. Alva Railing. 4TH DISTRICT LEGION OFFICERS INSTALLED Eight mehtbers of the Decatur unit of \ the American Legion auxiliary attended installation services for the fourth district auxiliary officers, held at? the Methodist church in Churubusco. Mrs) Kate Zinn, of Churubusco, a past district president, was installing officer. Mrs. Robert Laymon will head the district auxiliary this year. Alva Miller, fourth district commander, was iirtroduced and gave a brief talk. Mrs. Blanche Roscoe, of Albion, the retiring president, was presented with silver coffee service from the units in the distirct. Auxiliary and units 1 and 4ff. of Fort Wayne, entertained last evening patients at the Fort Wayne veterans hospital. Radio bingo was played and approximately 35 prizes awarded. Ronnie Robinson, of Decatur, entertained with several vocal and piano selections. Members of the local committee who attehded were Mrs. Rufus Sommer, Mrs. Dale' Stalter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scheiinan, Dr. and Mrs. Harold DeVor and Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Leonard.
