Bob Bowen Winner Os Tractor Race Second Race Held Thursday At Fair ' Bob 'Bowen of St. Mary’s township placed first with a Co-Op tracI tor in the second tractor obstacle course yesterday. He made the race in one minute and 17 seconds, making no fouls. Keith Frey and Jerry Price tied for second place with a score of 99. However, Keltb with the Allis Chalmer made the race a few, seconds faster than Jerry’s Ford and placed second, with Jerry rereceiving third place. Another double score was made by Arnold Girod and Leon Habegger. Leon used an Allis Chalmer while Arnold had a Ford to tie tor fourth place. There were 15 entries in this con- . test, sponsored by the various Implement dealers of Adams county. The committee in charge were: • Herman Dierkes, Dale Affolder, Marvin Siirunger and Wm) Fraizer. Other entries were Alan lacb, Paul Gehrman, John King, Norman Sheets, Tommy Drew, Clark Stably, Leo Busick and Ronald Gerber. Win. National Drive On Defense Bond Sales Next Month T. F. Graliker, chairman of the Adams county U.S. defense bonds committee, has been notified by Robert W. Fowler, director, Indiana U.S. savings bonds division that a nation-wide campaign will be conducted from September 3 to October 27 to increase defense bond sales. Quotas for Indiana counties are expected to be announced within the next 'few* days. "Defense Is Your Job, I Too’* will be the slogan for the | 'jcampaign. , which will havf' for its principal promotional idea the opportunity for each city to qualify as a U.S. defense flag city. Watkins Is Chairman Os Freedom Crusade Indianapolis, Aug. 10. —(UP) — Lt. Gov. John A. Watkins was named honorary hairman today of the 1951 state drive to enroll Hoosiers in the Crusade for Freedom, the Indiana American Legion ; announced today. The Legion, which’ received permission to condgct the campaign . as a part of ’its Americanism program, said the drive will open in September.
