Six Men Killed In Aulo-Truck Smashup Elwood Men Killed lh Head-on Crash Elwood. Ind., Wuly 26—(Uf’) — Six Elwood men were killed near here yesterday when their ciar crashed head-on into a truck as they drove to their Jobe at a factory ih nearby Anderson. The victims were John Leer, 39, the driver; Lazo Mitroff. 62; Charles Rebuck, 49; Roscoe Blackburn, tU; Charles Stewart, 58, and Frank Simmohs, 62. Wendhll E White, a driver for tii( Hoosier Condensed Milk - Cb., Bluffton.’ was not injured. The collision occurred on Ind. 37 five miles south of here. Stale! police said |he men were enroute to (he Guide Lamp division, a Gen-j eral Motors subsidiary, to report jfor the 4 p.m. ishift. ' White told police he waa passing another he saw Leer’s ear approaching from the opposite direction. ' Trooper Clifford McCory said White tried to turn into a roadside ’ ditch wl\en he saw he couldn’t get hack into his own lane in time. The ear turned ih the same direction, McCory said, and the car "crumbled as it slid partially under the body of the truck.” A wrecker was used to free the tangled wreckage of the car so the’ bodies could be recovered.
