A|l-SfarVofe Ends Tonight At Midnight Chicago, Jane 29. —(UP)--6ut of about 400 major league baseball players, the race for the starting teams in the annual all-star game July 10 had narrowed down*to 24 men today With the polls due to close at midnight. The league - leading Brooklyn Dodgers appeared a sure bet to dominate the National league’s lineup as at least three of their candidates practically nailed down their starting assignments. Over in the American league the Boston Red Sox were the most powerful contenders, with two apparent and two'players still in the running. The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees, pennant-winn-ers in their leagues last season, were running second-fiddle to the powerful Dodgers and Red Sox. Five players appeared sure of winning starting assignments in the National league and three in the American. All the other races had narrowed down to only two candiI dates apiece. ! The three Dodger candidates who seemed assured of winning were Gil Hodges at first base, Robmson at second and catcher Roy Campanella. The apparent Red Sox victors were center fielder Dominic Di Maggio and Imt fielder Ted Williams. | Other players enjoying overwhelming leads were second baseman Nelson Fox of the White Sox, third baseman Bob Elliott of the Boston Braves and the redoubtable Stan Mnsial of the St. Louis Cardinals. Muslal was the top vote-getter with 1,138,419; Trailing him were Appx with 1,126,454, Williams with 1314.604 and Robinson with 1-.102,-

Lutheran Teams Tp Hold Softball Meet The Lutheran scnoois of circuit A will compete in a circuit softball tourney, opening Saturday afternoon at the Bingen and Preble diamonds. Nine teams are entered in the tourney. Four games will be played tomorrow afternoon, one Sunday afternoon, with the semi-finals Saturday, July 7, arid the tourney championship Sunday, July 8.
