Chicago White Sox Take Two From Senators New' York, June 15.—(UP) - You can tell a champ in any sport they say, by the way he gets up citer a loss and takes charge agaiu —and that’s just what those young rind sassy Chicago White Sox were doing today. * , \ A lot of folks, who thought that the classy kids from the windy city w'tyre just a “flash in the pan," figured that the beltiqg they took in three straight games against the "ohl pro’” New York Yankees would.start the Sox on a long slide from Ijlrst place, down. ” But what happened instead? Those pesky kids ckme from behind to beat the Yanks in tbe last game of that series, added 14 win over Washington Tuesday, and last night ran thelj? hrand-new, winnirig streak to four games by sweeping both, ends of a twi-nfght twin bill from the Senators, 8 to 7 and 14 to 5. This splurge has restored the Sox league lead to a fat games over the Yankees. And it kept I their record absohiptely clean I without a single defeat in games played in- the qast this season. It looked like the Senators were going tc| stop Chicago in the first game, with a 7-6 lead going into the top Os \ the eighth inning in a real sltjgfest. But Floyd Baker rinch-hit a double that chased two Sox funk across the plate for an S-7 lead and relief pitcher Randy Gumpert' blanked Washington over the last two frames. The win went to reliefer Marv. Rofblatt, Gumpert’s predecessor, his fourth '•gainst ene loss. Eddie Stewart of Chicago £and Cass Michaels of the Senators: homered. The “ihidnightcap” never was in doubt, fbjr the White Spxc scored six runs in the second inning. With this sort of lead, Joe Dobson cruised to his fifth win although he allowed 14 hits. It was Sima’s sixth loss. ( In the only other American league ; action, Cleveland edged Philadelphia, 3 to 1, at night. Detroit at Boston and St. Louis at New YoFk were rained out. In the ?,’atiohaV league, four day \games ?aw Brooklyn beat St. Louis. 2 to 1; New Yofrk trounced Cincinnati, 11 to 6; Philadelphia crush the Cubs II to 3; and Pittsburgh dowu Poston. ;9 to 4. Brooklyn’s victory was one of the* mbst dramatic this season. The Bums were behind. 1-0, with one mail on and two out in thi ilinth inning. But Gil Hodges, the major leagues' leading home run hitter, caught hold of a pitch by rookie Joe Presko and hoisted i*. ever 400 feet for the game-winning runs. It was Hodges’ 2(Hh homer of the year and provided the dimax to a weird game which saw the Cards belt Ralph Branca and Carl Erhkine for 15 hits—and only one run. Larry Jansen of the Giants, given d four-run lead in the first inning..- breezed to his sixth win, although he allowed homers to Reds Bobby Adaihs and Grady Hatton. Eddie Stanky homered for the second-place Giants, who still trail the, Dodgers by six games. ■f ■ a ' ! Player Trade Mad# By Cards, Pirates Pittsburgh. June\ 15 —(UP) — Branch?
