Democrat of June 8, was in answer to.an article which appeared in the June 4 issue of (this paper. It is gratifying to see cnat there ar|. those who would enter their opipdons, and do so publicly. However it is disappointing, that the article should be signed by an ambiguous Adams Central Informatioin committee. Be that as it may, the Adams County Freeholders, as referred t<. in i the article of June 8, Is an in tangible organization. It is nothing more than a group of wliose spontaneous actions were brought about by the uncontrolled dictation, illegal procedure, unethical actions, and glased consideration which has been the ndrmal procedure ofAthe Adams Central school board. 11 •Your attack infers, that this group opposes education. Nothing could be further from the truth. Possibly you failed to read our proposal of a week or so ago, wherein we invited criticism, and asked that an honest discussion be brought before the people. We itemized eight points, in the article, which appeared June 4th in the Decatur Democrat. Your answer to these eigni points borders on the ridiculous. I 1. We can at your pleasure; proiduce- sworn testimony that one John Stoneburner, former I treaof the board, publicly stated that eventually all the high school students in the county, would attend the Adams Central school. Furthermore, Glenn Worklnger. present secretary, stated that Blue Creek township was being organized -. to join Adams Central, and Str Mary’s would be forced to join. 2. 3. 4. "What patrons,” you ask. The very patrons whose children are required to ride many miles, and even change busses, where before Adams Central, these children attended; a school in their immediate vicinity. For example, those children whn live in the Bellmont Park area cast of Decatbr, formerly attended the Decatur schools. Now, they travel within one block of the Decatur schools, and keep on traveling to the Adkms Centra.
— -r- * -H rchool in Kirkland township. , x Maybe. such silly “planning” explains (he recent article, showing tlhat the ■ greatest disbursement pf tax money in the county went \to Adams Central. We, tfee Adams County Free , holders, challenge you t<j> another election, : to determine, whether the majority favor the financial planning) of the Adams Central School Corp, in the erection of a ntew school to, be located at Monroe, or, favor the plan of the Freeholder,'of Sending the children to the Decatur and Berne schools; which plan, has been sanctioned by Dr. Church of Indiana Univerr?ty> and the State School Authority. . ' ■ The "small group” you speak of are most certainly standing on their constitutional rights,. in pp posing this kind of (Hanning. | ’ One glance at the Washington Twp. tax rate before, and after Adams Central, is another indication of t(he planning ddne by this group. (30 cents before Adams ' Central: ($1.95 after Adams Central.). ' -K J 5. In- the present muddle, ho one would be envious of anyone bolding | seat on this board. 6. Do you by any chance claim that the entire fleet of Adams Central busses can be housed in a , three bus garage. We have it on good authority, that the plans cal> ( for a three bus garage. 7. JThef people who oppose Adams Central belong to several faiths and fraternal organizations. To my knowledge, none of these groups have ever attempted to bring the problem into their cbuVch or lodge, 8. If all business of this board were above 'reproach, why was a “gag” resolution passed, to keep Information from being made pub? lie, without first being Cleared by the superintendent? Why the court decision in favor of the Freeholders? ■ was a resolution passed denying employment of anyone who had ever opposed Adams Central?! Why did a board member state in public, "We’re run-i n’ng this thing and D— them they’re going where we say.” Such actions by public servants can hardly be considered above reprodchi William J. Light Posts And j Parking Meters \ Here Are Painted \ There’s no time like the present to make mention of the bit of painting .job that’s been g° ln K on rl ® ht under a lot of seconjd story dwellers’ noses. 1 It’s late, perhaps, but better late than never, someone once said. \ The light posts that sit along the city's streets have lost, for the most part, their dull, unkempt gray. They have taken on a new hue, adding considerably to the lustre of the landscape. They are now green. Probably could be described as grass green, and not miss It too far. the city's light department has a group of young! men during the work which has been in progress sos som? time. Another, similar project was started more recently. This Is being completed by Bill Butler: The parking metdr standards are also getting painted. This latter project wad undertaken perhaps not so much tlo add to the beauty as to make' the parking meters more noticeable. Possibly then there will be a reduction in the number'of sdeh posts knocked over by motorists. To Crown Lakes O'Monticello Tonight

DI SALINE IS JEERED (Coatlwwea From Fage Owe) to the stockyards* Saddle pnd Sirr loin club yesterday were restless when Dlsalle appeared before them yesterday. Disalle wap calm but at times their obvious hostility caused him to turn beet red and his voice to Quaver. 1 Most of the farmers were from Indiana, Illinois and lowa. Ole Halvorson, a feeder from Dekalb, 111., said producers v/ete forced, under controls, to battle packers to buy cattle for fattening. “Didn’t you always have problem?” Disalle asked.' \ “A little, but not much,” Halvprson said, then shouted: “supply and demand has always taken carp of us in the United States of America!” ? / The other cattlemen rose to roar their approval. Disalle pointed out that produc\ers of other commodities wefe controlled much earlier than the meat industry and said “the regulations are fail*—that’s why we issued them.” \ , . \ ■ Try A Democrat Went Ad-r-lt Pay*
