More than half of the leaders* have turned their cards to the county extension office. Almost every club is increasing in number over last year, for example, the Union .Pals club now has 24 girls year ajgo. Gerke. chairman of the Adams county PM A committee, announced today. Gerke urges all farmers who have not signed the farm plan call at the county office before the deadline date. Farmers have been asked by the United States departmeiu of agri'-* culture to increase production for corn and soybeans, This increased production should be accohubished by good soil conservation practices, he said. Under the ACP program, farmers may receive payments for carrying out approved soil consert vation practices. Pendergast Machine Loses In Election Kansas City Voters Defeat Democrats Kansas City, Mo., Mar. 28 — •(I P)---Kansas City voters rejected a slate of city candidates back- , ed by. united Democratic party factions, including remnants of the old\ Pendergast machine returns showed today. A slate supported by the citizens association, which swept the Pendergast group from power in 1940, returned to the city hall en mas; e after giving the Democratic candidates a sound thrashing In yesterday’s city election. With 493 of 494 precincts unofficially counted. Mayor William E. • Kemp was leading Ben Swotford, 67.607 to 55,265. Swofford, 40-year-old attorney, admitted he had no hope for victory.
