The victims were Otis J.' Whah. 35, of Sherrard. 111., investigator for the Illinois conservation department for Mercer County, his uncle. Sidney H. Snell. Whan went out on the frozen river near New Boston. 111., yesterday to observe seining operatioas by Wheeler and other members of his family. Wheeler volunteered to take Whan and Snell back to their car, one and one-half miles across the ice from where the men were fishing.' \ Authorities said Wheeler apparently took a short-cut instead of following the usual path and hit an air pocket in the ice, which ks 16 inches thick In most spots.
