131 Children Complete Library Reading Project
A total of 131 children finished the summer reading project at the Decatur public library. Miss Bertha Heller, librarian announced today. Tbe project was completed last Thursday. It started June 1 with 247 children enrolling. 7 A diploma was awarded to each child completing the project, which consisted of reading 10 books, k large map of the United States was divided into 10 sections,, and a train with the child's name was advanced section by section as he read books. / Champion reader was Anna Marie Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman J Miller, of 1221 W Monroe street. She finished 85 books thia summer, besides swimming and other summer recreation. Her slater. Elisabeth, also in the fifth and sixth grade class, read «5 books. During rhe summer reading period, 5.179 children’s books were read from the Decatur library, Miss Heller reported. General circulation increaM-d from 21.185 for the first' eight months of 1949 to 24,170 for the same period of 1950.
