State poliee Capt. William Thompson, here from Indianapolis to direct state police operations in the strike against three other furniture factories, said Linus Meliringer was charged with assault and battery and Henry Hertsog With malicious trespass. The AFL union struck against the factories in October, seeking a union shop, paid vacations and a lOeeat hourly pay boost. The factories ooatinued to operate. Hsing reduced work forces composed of both oM and new non-union em ployes. Thompson said there was a state police detective ia plain clothes at Jasper Desk this morning when about 100 pickets Hocked the dtfv>'; and prevented one car from enter-1 Tn«. Another car eras forced hi , and the detective called for rein forcements. Six uniformed troopers went to the picket line and breached the picket line to permit 10 or 15 carsj to enter. Thompson said, and Hertzog Was picked np when he "grabbed" an other car after several pickets shouted "turn it over."
