Decatur, Indiana, Tueeday, February 21, 1950

. ■ — ■ in THE WARMEST of greetings from the Decatur Daily Democrat to Adams county high Hchool basketball player*, coaches, school officials and fans as the first tipoff of the 1950 sectional tourney is only two duy* in the future. —oOo— LOOKING OVER the 1949-50 net season, which came to a close last Friday night, studying the pairings for the sectional, and from experience of past tourneys, the 1950 meet looks like another great tourney, with three, and perhaps four teams, rated with excellent chances to come through to the sectional crown along atxiut 9:30 o'clock Saturday night. . —-000— THE THREE top teams appear to be the defending champion Decatur Yelkiw Jackets, the Decatur (xwnfnodoreH andthe Berne Bean*. Ami the fourth team, which a month ago loomed as one of the top choice*,-cannot be counted out. However, the Mon- ' W fheAounty in'gataM won and lost <iver the entire seßßon, have been pestered by injuries in the late stages •{ the campaign, and at this writing chances of Bob Harvey, one of the county s top offensive stars, of seeing action in the sectional are doubtful. Bob. missing action entirely in two of his team's last four games, and seeing only brief duty in Kveral others, is hopeful his Injured tag wdl respond to eatment by tourney time, H* Httta optimism is shown it' "by school TO REFRESH the fans memory, here are the re- ' suit* of the 1949 sectional: Commodores 41, Pleasant Mill* 22. Kirkland 41. (taneva 42. Monroe 57, Monmouth 34. Berne 41, Jefferson 37. Yellow Jacket* 44. Hartford 36. Kirkland 41, Conffnodores 34. Monroe 50, Berne 31. 1 Yellow Jackets 49. Kirkland 38. • Yellow Jacket* 56. Monroe 37 (final.) WE GUESS AGAIN! The 1950 tourney will be the 11th consecutive sectional held at the Decatur high schootgym since its erection. Prior to that 1940. meet. BASKETBAWL, in a fit of-madness and in no way setling himself up as any kind of an exjiert, put his predictions down in print Tans, although disagreeing 1 with our pick* (sometime* rather heatedly), seemed to enjoy it. and su it ha* liecome an annual custom, (Sort i <>f’ an annual joke.) Our average i*. still slipping. In I the 10 previous vears, we have picked only four section- • al champion*. An» in those 10 years, only once have we made a PERFECT record. That was in 1941. when ’ we correctly picked the winner of every game. Here are BASKETBAWL'S predictions: I * BERNE-COMMODORES — These team* did not meet during the season, and a study of record* against common opponents leads to little but confusion.
