I On Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson, The Universal God. Jeremiah 29:1-14; 31:3, for Sunday. December 18. The exiled Jew felt that God was bounded by the limits of Judah and therefore they were beyond his help and love. Added to this were the false statements made of God by false prophets. V.l. "Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elder* which were carried away captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets. | and to all the iwople whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon." God never forsakes hia own: Jeremiah, the true prophet, left behind at Jerusalem during the exile, is God s messenger of hope. V. 4. "Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are carried away captives, whom 1 have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem unto Babylon." God speaka of the deportation <u definitely his work in chastising the people and bringing about amendment of life. V. 5. “Build ye houses and dwell In them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;" The false prophets dedared they would re* turn to Judah in two years; Jeremiah points out the fact that they must make the best of their exile years for some time; hence build houses. V. 6. "Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there and not diminished." The captives were to live normal lives and establish homes for there was a future before them yet, in the plan of God V.7. "And seek the peare of the city whither I have caused thee td be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it; for in the peace thereof ye shall have peace.” Civic duties, seeking the welfare of the community, is God s' plan for his people. Our peace Is closely related to the peace found In our community, ottr nation and the world. V.B. "For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your di-
Are you on the sunny side of life? What you think you are, you are. If you think you are miserable. mistreated, and unhappy, all theae things will come to pass. But If you taa<-h yourself to believe that after all the world Is a pleasant place, and the people In It are nice people, then abiding happiness will be yours; hapiness <ome* to those who think well of everybody. LESSON PRAYER: l.e**<m prayer: We pray for guidance In suffering that we may feel God** holy purpose being worked out In us and for us Grant that God'e love in us may more and more dominate our live* and cause ua to walk acceptably before God.”

viners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye caused to be dreamed." Great care needs to be taken that deception does not enter into our religion. A good disciple is an earnest seeker alter the truth. V. 9. "For they prophesy falsely in my name; I have not sent them, Haith the Lord." A great responsibility rests in religious leaders that what is proclaimed rings true with the voices of God. A true teacher is God sent. Wrong teaching produces confusion in the hearers. Just now we are confused as to world plans presented by world leaders. The world needs a Jeremiah. V.lO. “For thus saith the Lord. That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you and perform my good word toward you in causing you to return to this place." This promise is recorded in Jeremiah 27:2. Time is one of Gods ways for sifting out his people. But his purpose though seen at a distance, will never fail. V.IL "For 1 know the thoughts that l think toward you. saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." It is a mistake to think that God visits his people with evil. What can be traced to God’s* doings is always for the best, such as peace. V. 12. “Then shall ye call upon me. and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you." When God's chastisement has done Its office work upon their moral and spiritual temper. God will hearken to their prayers. V.ll. "And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart" Whatever our circumstances in life may be, we can find God if we dellgently search for him. V. 14. "And I will be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turn away your captivity, and 1 will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither is have driven out saith the Lord; ond I will bring you again to the place whence I caused you to be carried away," Notice how often the words, "1 Will” are used. God's purpose in a triumphant ending* for his children Is beyond question. V. 3. "The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying. Yea I have loved thee with an everlasting love; therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee." The supreme motive in the mind and mercy of God to rebellious men is love.
Clerlcus Says: Clerlcus saye: "True prayer conslats In seeking after (hid himself and finding him; It requires the exercise of all our God-given powers. The people, described in the Bible, who found God and In him found deliverance sought him earnestly; ae earnestly as a miser seeks for gold and as a lover seeks to win the heart of his beloved.” Book Review The Snowden-Douglass Bunday School Lessons. 1960, by Earl L. Douglass, Macmillan Co., Is grow* Ing more popular because of the deep apiritual content of the lessons. The central truth in each section is printed in hold face. The Illustrative material consists of episodes from literature, history, and present day happening*. "Hints to Teachers," at the end of each lesson, gives practical advice.
