Commodores Win; Yellow Jackets Los

Commodores Break Losing Streak Friday | De< atur's Commodores broke into tin- victory column for the first lime this season Friday night. defeating .*■’* Kone of Lima. <).. 43 12 at the Yellow Jackets gym in tins city. The Commodores increased their advantage to six points at the half'ime intermission with a 21-15 lead. De.atur zoomed into a 1 ( point lead at 31 17 midway through the .'bird quarter and the Commodore* were still <»n top by 10 points at 3.3-23 as the final eight minutes of play got underway. The Commodores lost Dick Gaze on five personal fouls after two and one ha)f niinuh s of the final period had elapsed, ami the Lima quintet began to close the gap slowly. St. Rose pulled within three points at 35-32 with slightly less than three minutes to play. The Commodores pulled away again on Joe Loshe's free throw and Bill Gillig's fielder from underneath but Lima again came within three points at 41-38. Lawler cut it to one point but Wilder tallied what proved to lie the winning basket from underneath, O’Connor follow ing with his shot which was in the air at the final horn. Wilder was the outstanding offensive star with 23 itoints on lo fi» Id goals and three foul tosses, while O'Connor topped Lima whit 11. Jackets Lose To Berne Five Friday Night The Decatur Yellow Jackets lost their first game of the young basketball season last night to a det erm Ined Berne quintet. 49-45. The Bears won the game in the las* minute with two quick baskets while holding the Jackets to a single point in the last few minutes of play. After the score see-sawed for the first few minutes, the Jackets forged ahead and led at the first stop. 17-16. They managed to keep such a lead, and occasionaly Increase it during the game, but the Bears scored the points when it did the most good, and won a bitterly fought basketball game. Both teams fought hard for possession of the ball, and some times of the opponent, in a game stopped 44 times by officials for fouls. The officials also stopped the game in the third period to cool tempers of a couple of the player.* when the race became too hectic. Although the Jackets held a height advantage over the Bears, the home Ijam was able to consistently control the backboard* and hold down many Decatur scoring opportunities.
