Jackets Play Opening Game Friday Night The Decatur Yellow Jacket*, with only three lettermen back from last season’s sectional championship squad, will launch their 1949 o net card Friday night, entertaining the Geneva Cardinals at the Yello'V Jackets gym in this city. While this will be ’he Jackets' initial appearance of the season, tomorrow's tilt will be the third o', the season for their opponents. Geneva scored its first vitory of the season Tuesday night, defeating the Petroleum Panthers from Weds county in an overtime thriller, after the Cardinals had dropped their first two games to the Berne Bears and Adams Central Greyhounds. The Cardinals, despite losing John Stanley, the county's leading s orer last season, have developed am'her high scoring machine. Geneva scored 46 points in each of its two losses, and racked up 3t» points Tuesday in the initial victory. Decatur's returning lettermen ar<» Harold Bohnke. Gt urge Bair and Vic Strickler. Coach Bob Worthman reports his squad in only fair condition for the opener, with Jacs Petrie, slated for considerable ac tioti this season, unlikely to see any duty in the first game because of an ankle injury sustained in practice. Soya Gun Club To Hold Turkey Shoot A public turkey shoot will be Sponsored by the newly-formed Central Soya gun club at their gun range north of the city on highway 27 Sunday from 10 a m to 4 p.m. Gerald Eady, president of the new club, announced that turkeys, chickens and hams will be among the prizes awarded in the matches. The gun range, located approximately a quarter of a mile north of the St. Mary's river bridge on the west side of highway 27 is expected to be one of the best equipped ranges in this area when completed At present only facili- , ties for trap shooting have been provided.
