Britain Asks Confidence Vote Over Policies British Cabinet To Ask Vote; No Further Atom Announcement London. Sept. 26 -(I'Pl — The cabinet decided today to ark parliament for a vote of confidence on its devaluation policy and its re fusal to back down on Ils costly health plan and other socialist programs* The ministers also decided to refrain from elahoiating on the skimpy official announcement on Russia's atomic explosion, even though Winston Churchill will press for more information At a two-hour special session the cabinet drafted a motion which Sir Stafford Cripps will submit at the opening of debate tomorrow Parliament was called back from a recess for a special meeting to dis cuss devaluation. Prime minister Clement Attlee and health minister Aneurin Bevan supported Cilpps" original pledge that devaluation and all other agreements reached at Washington would not be allowed to interfere with the socialist programs. The cabinet derided to meet the opposition head on for the devaluation debate If th*- government, loses, it would have to resign and I call general elections at once. But labor party whips sent threeline notices to party members of parliament, and little likelihood was seen of failure to a< quire the necessary majority. Attlee will wind up tie debate Thursday night just before the i vote on the government's motidb. In a series of speeches dating back to 11'46. th* conservative party leader has warned repeatedly that an international settlement of fundamental problems should be made before Russia acquired the atom bomb Churchill has remained sib nt since 'he announcement last Friday that an atomic explosion had occurred in Russia.
