I k. on 8.8.».®a | lesson Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson, Psalms for Daily Living (Temperance Les gon). Psalms 15. 24:1-4; 143:8-1V, for Sunday. September 18. These Psalms stress righteous living, having clean hands and a pure hJart. and Indirectly, the need of abstinence from such habits as drinking intoxicants. V.l. “Lord who shall abide in, thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in the holy bill?” These questions mean "What kind of per son will have true communion with God?" The answer is in the following four verses. V. 2. ‘He that walketh uprightly. [ and worketh righteousness and speaketh the truth in his heart." I Uprightly means wholehearted de lotion to God and complete integrity with men. L'nlike a flatterer, a righteous man speaks the truth sincerely. Note the word walk" which suggests action. There are no rocking chair Christians. V. 2 "He that baikidtellt not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbor, nor taketh up a reproach j against his neighbor.” A righteous man when tried will not talk back with stinging words He will not magnify the faults of others or : share in gossip talk. V.L "In whose eyes a vile per-1 son is contemned; but he honoreth ' them that fear the Lord." A vile j person is despised because a righteous man can not look with favor on such a person. A right-j eous man honors those that fear the Lord by respecting, loving, and helping them. A righteous man < keeps his word at any coat. V. 5. "lie that putteth not his money to usury nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved." In Old Testament‘ times only a poor man borrowed I motley and the ties of brotherhood would not permit interest. The lesson here Is that of brotherhood. Business today involves invest ments. Like real estate, a mortgage loan, for instance, is regarded the same as a real estate investment. Hut. nevertheless, a righteous man will not take advantage of a fl nan< tally poor man. Stability of character characterising the man who fits the description of a right-
“The person who is organized and cairn and controlled in hi* iniud, by habitual practice of the formula of faith, can live without tension. The formula of faith tall* for an absolute surrender to Jesus Christ who when the door is open <-d < pine* In and sits on the throne of the soul; he speaks peace to the soul." Book Review Psychology for Christian Teachers. by Alfred L. .Murray, ZomJervau Publishing House, altho particularly helpful to Christian parent*. teachers, and counselor* of youth, is also a help to all seek Ing to live the Christian life effettively. The author "hopes to bring the reader into closer con tact with his fellowtnen and de velop iu him a deeper sympathy with their hopes, aspiration*, and spiritual longings"

eous man, V.l. "The earth is the Lord* and the fulness thereof, the world and they that dwell therein." In a broad and general sense, ail the people In the world as well as the world itself, belong to God. V. 2. "For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods." This seems to» be a reference to Genesis 1:9. "And God said, let waters under the heaven be gathered together unto j one place, and let the dry land appear." Since the righteous God made the world and by hi* right eousne-ss and power still control* It, man should attempt to make his , life worthy of the divine blessings.! V. 3. "Who shall accent to the hill of the Lord? or who shall | stand in his holy place?" In oth-1 er word*. Who is worthy to dwell at peace In a world which right- ; eous Jehovah has founded upon the seas and established on th* floods? V. 4. "He that hath clean hands and a pure head; who hath not lifted up hi* soul in vanity, nor sworn deceitfully." God Is pleased only with the man who ha* done the right thing awl whose purpose is always to do (he right. Here Is a point in total abstinence. Clean hands are those free from dishonesty, violence, abuse of others; here the thought may include the evils of the liquor traf- ’ flc. A pure heart Is one that is free from ulterior motives, selfishness *nrf evil desires; here again is included the call for a ' life not contaminated with Intoxi leant*. V.S. ''He shall receive the blessings from the Lord, mid righteous- ' news from the God of hi* salva- ' tion ” Righteous living pays hig i dividends in peace of mind, four--1 age to do right, satisfaction and Joy in Christian fellowship and , communion with God. V. 6. "This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy , face. 0 Jacob." The kind of men that have been described above , is the kind that seek after God. I V.S. "Cause me to hear thy lovling kindness in the morning: lor In thee do I trust. Cause me to I know the way wherein 1 should | walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee." The fact that the writer is j putting his trust in the lx>r<i is urged as a reason why he should be heard and guided aright. V.S. "Deliver me. O ixerd, from j mine enemies; I flee unto thee to I i hide tr.e." If God is our hiding' place by simply trusting him, we may be assured of victory.
Clericus Says: ClericM says: "When Christ wanted to measure a man s good-1 ness, he pushed aside what appeared to be his good acts and I penetrated to the mans heart to see how much goodness was there if there was no goodness there, then the act. no matter how strong and healthy it might seam,' was without roots and would perish. Virtue. Our Lord averred. I* like a seed (eemtng with living j poMibilities." LESSON PRAYER: Lesson prayer: We pray tor that cleansing work of the Holy Spirit which results in a pure heart and clean bands.
