Then 1 went to the drug store, "I met (James) Hutton on the step I asked him to get out of the way. He didn't move fast enough so I shot him "I went through the store but there was no one downstairs. Then I shot Cohen's mother She was in a bedroom. "I was walking away when I noticed a car stopped for a red light There were two women and a boy in the car I shot all ol them "I saw somebody looking out a window in an apartment building, so I shot nt them. There were a couple- of men across the street and I fired at them I dfci't know who they were or whether I hit them. "1 went around .the hack of the drug store and shot at Mrs. Harrie I aimed at her son but I thought the pistol ditjn't go off “I wax out of ammunition then so I went home."

Decatur Girl Scout Council In Receipt Os 1949 50 Charter The Decatur Girl Scout council 'has received Its 1949-50 charter from the Girl Scout national headquarter* in New- Cork City The charter authorize* the liecatur council to function a* an official ' unit of Giri Scouts of the t'nlted ' States of America for the next 12 months. This is the first charter granted , to the Decatur council under a new plan whereby charter* are issued in recognition of yearly achievement. According to Mr* Roy Kaiver. volume of membership, the number of volunteer leader* ami the number of troop* a* well a* th? quality of the program for the gin* comprise the basis on which charter* are granted. In a letter accompanying the c barter. Mr*. Vaughn Ferguson. Girl Scout national president, congratulated the Decatur council for Its work of the previous year and stated that the charter had been granted on the basis of the council's annual report and its accomplishment* during the yea. - . Mr* Ferguson pointed out that Girl Scouting I* a nation-wide and world- youth movement with great potential power for the strengtin-u ing of democracy She stated that the good work done locally by council.* determine the national and International value of Scouting and said tiiat she hoped that liefoie long it would be possible for any girl, in any part of the country, to be a Girl Scout if she ao desired. Handicraft School Planned Sept. 14 All-Day School At Berne Auditorium Handle rafts for the homemaker! will be- featured at a special school scheduled for September 14. Thl*c school will be open to the public Isoth morning and afternoon. Work , space will he ready for the learn- i ing craftsmen at 9:30 a m. and, instructor* will stay on the scene until 3:30 p. m. The school will be held in the Berne community auditorium. Four traft* will be offered — plastic molding, metal work, spanlix, and leather work. Spantex is the making of a kind of ccmturne jewelry. The handicraft*er designs the Jewelry with fine wire, this wire is dipped In a plastic- solution that forms of flint to fill out the design. Some craftsmen decorate their piece* with painting and glitter dust before mounting them on pin*, earrings, jewel box. etc In the plastic molding bootn.' amateur* will have an opportunity to make bracelet*. lipper pull*. < candy dishes, ash trays, etc. The plastic I* heated until pliable and then formed into the desired *ba?e. Those who wish to try thia craft should bring a pair of canvas gloves. The metal craft shop will he a , noisy place as coasters.- serving i trays, fruit howls, ash trays, etc., are being pounded out. Light weight copper for small articles and heav- 1 ier gage copper and alumninum for the larger pieces will be available. Those anticipating working in metal should bring along a peen point hammer if possible. Leather work will include tile ! making of purse*, belts and possibly ! ' gloves. Anyone interested is invited to participate in all or anyone of the c rafts that will he studied. The school will nut be conducted a* i meeting but as a workshop, people may come and go at their own con I venlence. Approve Rent Unit For Indianapolis Indianapolis. Sept. 7. (UP) A 35-unit rental housing project in Indianapoli* for World 33 ar II veterans was approved by the fed eral bousing administration state director Earl Petsr* said today. It was the 99tb multi-unit project to be approved in Indiana. Peters said, and will he financed by a 1283,500 mortgage.
Some Rain Damage To Indiana Crops Commercial Tomato Crop Is Damaged Indianapolis, Sept. 7. —(UP)— Rain damage to booster crop* in scattered areas of the state was reported today tn the weather bureau* crop hulletif. Tomato growers in Greene county reported toosiderabl* damage after shower* and hail Wednesday Paul A. Miller, weather bureau chief, said it now appeared heavy raina during August and recent cool weather resulted in retardation and disease in the commercial tomato crop. Some canneries were operating on curtailed schedules due to lack of tomatoes, he added "A period of warm dry weather is trndly needed to inaure more rapid ripening and better quality,’' Miller said. Tiu- crop bulletin indicated third cutting* of Alfalfa were producing good tonnage, but considerable rain damage was reported. Corn was reported well eared, much was drying and some was frost sate, but in lowland ares* It was still quite green. Peaches and melons were past their peak season but were xtiU plentiful. Apples were ripening seasonally, the bulletin said. The report said that ground was being prepared for winter wheat, barley and rye with some already sown. Scattered report* on this year's potato crop indicate considerable variation, but the range was from fair to good generally.
