Anne, Incidentially, is making the Trip to Paducah with her mother in Barkley’s plane .Janie, ! 14, named after Mrs. Hadley, is staying home. Mrs. Hadley was Ixirn Jane Rucker In Keytesville, Mo., the daughter of a lawyer, Roy Rucker, and granddaughter of a congressman. Her mother. F.stle Rucker, took her three children with her . While She studied music In Europe Jane studied music and languages in Paris, Rome and Switzerland. ; She speaks fluent French and - Italian. j When Jane returned from Europe I she enrolled at Washington Unii versify. She studied there only a year before she married Hadley, a young lawyer just out of school, at the age of 19. When Hadley died of a heart attack at the age of 42 he was general counsel for the Wabash. Mrs. Hadley took a job as a secretary at Washington University. Imter she moved to the Wabash railroad as private secretary to general counsel Joseph A. McCiain, Jr. Early this summer Mrs, Hadley went to Washington to spend her vacation with the Clark Cliffords. Barklev met his "lovely, charming lady" there for the first time. Carry Arms Program Fight Into House Opponents To Drop Committee Fight Washington. Aug. 12—(UP)— Leaders in the house fight to reduce the administration's 11,460,OtJO.OOO foreign military aid program gave up today in their effort to get the house foreign affairs committee to approve a cut. Reps. James P. Richard, I), 8. C . and John M. Vorys, R., <>., decided to wait until the bill reaches the house floor, probably next week Committee chairman John Kee, I’-, W. Va., said the group had agreed to take a final vote on the bill Monday. The committee already has rejected a proposal by Richards to halve the military aid for the Atlantic pact nations. Vorys. who had planned to offer another proposal for cutting the money, told reporters after the morning committee session that he had decided to withhold his recorn tnendation He said he and other committee members who favor a cut will renew their fight on the house floor. The committee approved a proposal by Rep. Jacob K. Javits, R., N. Y„ designed to strengthen the legislation's provisions for a unified command In the north Atlantic area. The Javits plan calls for furnishing of military assistance to Atlantic pact nations that havr "unified direction and effort.” The committee also okayed a proposal offered jointly by Reps. Withhold Payment Os Khan's Insurance Paris, Aug 12—(UP)— Lloyds of London said today the Aga Khan won't get a penny from the |785,000 worth of jewels stolen from him until insurance detectives finish their Investigation of the robbery. John P. V. Buellens. Paris representative of the famous Imndon firm, said if the Jewels were found after the insurance had been paid they would automatically "become the property of Lloyds." Tavern Owner Free Under $1,500 Bail Pleads Innocent To Shooting Bartender Marlon. Ind., Aug. 12—(UP) — Newton Jones, tavern owner here who admitted shooting one ot his bartenders, was free on 11,600 bail today after pleading innocent to a charge of assault and battery with intent to commit a felony. The wounded man. James E Israel. 38. was hospitalized and in only "fair" condition. He was operated on and given five blood transfusions after the shooting Israel was shot with a .38 caliber revolver late Tuesday night as he fought with Dillard Jones, brother of the bar owner. Shortly after the shooting. Jones said he fired one shot at Israel when he saw the brawl, but he later said he fired only after he himself had been knocked down. Charles E Morgan. St. Louis, aid a meeting would be held in the First Christian Fundamental church tonight to organize a drive for money to pay for Rutledge’s appeal. Rutledge, a St. Louis baby doctor. was convicted in lowa of killing Byron C. Hattman. also St Ixuls, in a Cedar Rapids hotel room. Hoosier Guardsmen End Camp Saturday Camp Atterbury, Ind . Aug. 12. (UP) More than 6.000 Indiana National Guardsmen prepared today to move back to civilian life as Ohio’s National Guard started moving in for its summer maneuv era. The 15-day Hoosier encampment winds up today and the 38th infantry divisions 125 units will break camp officially Saturday. The Vanguard of Ohio's guardsmen already was here on the sprawling camp grounds getting ready for the second camp period.
