Marion Bartender Critically Wounded Morion Mon It Shot In Brawl At Tavern Marion. lad. Aug 10. —<VPI~ A bartender was in critical condition today after being shot In a tavern brawl. Tagarn owner Newto* Jones signed a statement that he shot James E. Israel. M. as the later fought with Jones' brother, Dillard. in the tavern late yesterday, police said. Dillard Jones told authorities the brawl started out as a fight between two waitresses. Nancy Dalton and Mildred Welch. t He said he tried to break it up. but that Israel also got into the fracas, Newton Jones, who said he was on his way out of his restaurant, said he turned around when he saw the fight, grabbed his JI caliber revolver and fired one shot as Israel. The bullet struck him in the side. Israel was rushed to a hospital and was operated on and given five blood transfusions, physicians said be was in "very critical" condition. Jones was arrested on an open charge reuse of the brawl was not determined
