Th>- case had been transferred here from the justice ot the peace court in Berne at the defendant's ! request. He had been fined *1 I and costs there, imel maintained that he did not cross a yellow line on his side of the road. However, he admitted that he was going up a hill at the time. Sheriff Herman Bowman, the arresting officer, stated that the yellow line there is 175 feet long. Cletus Gardner. Celina, 0., was also fined *5 and costs for a similar offense near Decatur. Gardner was arrested by sheriff Bowman over the weekend. Fined For Driving Without License Gleito Lopez. of rural route one. ‘ Cralgville. was fined *5 and costs, j totaling *16.75, this morning for ; driving without an operator's license. Lopez was arrested Thursday night by sheriff Herman Bowman when a pick up truck he was thriving turned over in Curryville. Lopes, who is unable to understand or speak English, had an | interpreter who explained the procedure of the trial to him In Spanish. Lopez testified that be had no driver's license because his brother. Enrique, did the driving. They ran out of coal oil. however, and he was driving to a store to get it wheq the accident took place. Mayor Doan. In whose court the case was tried, had the Interpretor explain the necessity of a llcense to Ixipez. Is>f>ez promised to get a license as soon as possible. Cancel Recreation Night At Monmouth The Monmouth recreation program, to be held at the Monmouth gymnasium next Tuesday has been (ancelled, Mrs. Herbert Braun, i chairman of the committee, stated thia morning. The committee felt I that the meeting should be called off because of the number of polio i cases in the county. 1 This was to be the last of the] Monmouth recreation nights thia' summer. Mra.
