July 28 —The Berne town board has indicated that a substantial slash will be made in Berne s proposed tax rate tor 1950. The budget will be completed at the next meeting of the board. The rate now in effect is 85 cents and the rate for next year is expected to be several cents lower. Rent Controls Are Removed At Wabash Washington. July 28 — (UP) — Housing expediter Tighe E. Woods today removed rent controls in Wabash, Ind., Russell, Kan., ami Laporte and Pasadena, Tex. The governing bodies of those cities previously had adopted decontrol resolutions under the 1919 federal rent control law. Woods also ended controls in the remainder of Russell county. Kan.; the remainder of Noble township, where Wabash is located, and Chester township, thus completing decontrol of Wabash county. Is Board Member Berne. July 28. —Roger Meshberger, of Nashville, formerly of Berne, has been selected to serve on the Brown county school board. The appointment was made by the township trustees and the county school superintendent. Brown county recently adopted the county unit school system. Jess Leßrun Injured In Auto Accident Jess Le Brun, of South Whitley, former theater proprietor of this city, wus severely injured in an i auto accident last Sunday. With a neighbor, Mr. Le Brun was traveling north on a fishing trip when the accident happened He received a fractured leg, shoulder and a finger and was taken to the hospital in Warsaw.
