The debate began Friday morning and originally was expected to lead to a vole Saturday night Deputies shouted at each other and twice exchanged punches, necessitating recesses Only after an all-night session from JO: 30 p. m. last night until 8:45 a. m. today was the vote finally taken. From the beginning, ratification was considered a certainty. Hut communists and non communists, tense from days of oratory, started swapping the punches. When President Edouard ilerriot suspended a session, they continued fighting in the lobbies outside. Police said no one was injured seriously, but there were several black eyes and bloody noses. When the votu came, it was the | communists who lined up against ratification, as expected. Full ratification already has been given to th- pact by the United States, Canada. Britain, Belgium Norway. Luxembourg ami Iceland. As in Frame, thy lower houses in Italy and the Netherlands have approved the pact but action by the upper houses is pending. Portugal's national assembly still has to vote. Denmark's parliament lias authorized the government to ratify the pact with out any further legislative action. Hut the formal announcement of ratification has not yet been made. Shaw Says Stalin ■ Mainstay 01 Peace 1 Playwright Hits Labor Government London. July 27—(UP) George] Bernard Shaw accused Britain's labor government today of waging a "jingo war on Russia. He described Generalissimo Josef Stalin as the "mainstay of peace in Europe " The aged playwright, who observed his 93rd birthday yesterday, expounded his views in a letter io Konni ZHliacus. recently expelled from the labor party for his leftist views. Shaw told ZHliacus that a "vote against you is a vote for another war."
