On a trip through Ihe packing plant you would see the stems removed. then the cherries go to a large washer. New Orleans Priest Is Brutally Beaten Elderly Priest Is Attacked In Church New Orleans. July 8. — (UP) — An elderly priest was brutaTly beaten today In the vestibule or Holy Redeemer church, where he had just said a mass. The priest, the Rev. Father Jonn F. Neifort of the Society of St. Joseph, staggered into the kitchen of the parish house, next door to lhe church, babbling Incoherently. * Bertha t’opin, his maid, said he was "covered with blood.” His fare and head were cut ami one eye was blackening. Longest Heal Wave Drags On In U. S. Temporary Relief In Showers, Clouds By United Press The longest heat wave of the summer dragged on In spite of temporary relief brought to parts of the east and midwest today by cloudy skies and showers. The weather bureau saw no real break In the high temperatures and drought which have caused the deaths of 434 people since last Friday night. A United Press survey showed that since 6 p.m. last Friday, heat prostration and heart attacks because of the heat killed lf9. An other 314 were drowned when they tried to cool off by swimming or boating. The showers which fell in parts of the east didn’t break the long drought which has damaged crops worth $75,000.000 in northeastern stales. New England farm experts said. Weather forecasters gave no hope of a drought-breaking general rain there. Bostonians and New Yorkers got forecasts of comfortable temperatures, and cool dry air blanketing the Atlantic seaboard from Connecticut to Maryland indicated the relief might last several days.
