Fisherman Is Slain By Patrol Deputy Virginia, Maryland To Probe Shooting Crisfield. Md, July 6-(UP) — The governors of Virginia and Maryland today called a Joint conference of stale authorities to investigate the fatal shooting of a Maryland fisherman by a rookie Virginia airplane patrol deputy. Both Gov William Preston Lane of Maryland and Gov. William M. Tuck of Virginia said they want to get all the facts surrounding the death yesterday of 60-year-old Karl Nelson of Crisfield on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay hard by the VirglnlwMaryland border. Virginia fisheries commissioner Charles M. Lankford said in Franktown. Va.. that Nelson was shot and killed accidentally by David Acree of Weirwood. Va. a 23-year-old veteran of World War Il who Joined the airplane patrol staff only yesterday. Lankford said that at the time, Acree was trying to arrest Nelson for fishing illegally in Virginia waters. He quoted the deputy as saying that Nelson attempted to snatch his carbine and, in the ensuing scuffle, the weapon went off. The bullet struck Nelson in the right hip. severing an artery. He died a few minutes later while another fisherman was taking him ashore. Virginia and Maryland police of flcials were expected to explore thoroughly the apparent discrepancy between the stories of Acree and Maryland fisherman who were close by when the shooting occur red. Maryland crabbers told police they saw no scuffle and heard no sounds of a quarrel. Nelson, a retired policeman, was the father of seven children The shooting marked a revival of the long-smoldering feud between Virginia and Maryland over fishing rights in the Chesapeake Bay and the lower Potomac river. Esch state Issues its own crabbing licenses It is a criminal of sense for fishermen ot one state to cross the border to crab in the waters of the other state. President 01 Japan Railways Found Dead Fear Uprising Os Communist Forces Tokyo. July 6 — (UP) The decapitated body of the president of Japan's government-owned railways was found on railroad tracks on the outskirts of Tokyo today, less than 34 hours before the government's scheduled discharge of 30,000 railway workers. Police said they had not determined yet whether Sadanorl Shimoyama bad committed suicide in despg)r <*ser having to carry out the government's mass discharge order, or had been murdered by agitators against the order. They feared the ln< ident might serve as a signal for the start ot an uprising by Communists accused by premier Shigeru Yoshida of plotting an August revolution. The government ordered 30.000 of the country's 200,000 railway workers discharged tomorrow as an economy measure dictated by Gen Douglas MacArthur, supreme occupation commander. .MacArthur’s headquarters called for a toil-level conference to discuss the Shimoyama cast. Railway union officials have lp*<-n sunim< ned to meet MacArthur's labor officials. Workers had been threatening Shimoyama since the government first announced its austerity" program for the state railways. He disappeared yesterday after leavi ig his home by automobile for his office. His head was found a few feet from his body on the railway right of way. The face had been disfigured. He was identified by papers and a train pass found in his pocket. The U.
