Weafher Is Aid To Hoosier Fann Crops Wheat Crop Not As Good As Expected Indianapolis, July 6— (UP) — Hoosier farm crops got another a«slst last week from hot and humid weather, the Indiana weather bureau reported today in Its weekly crop bulletin. But the bulletin said a "few scattered early reports” indicated the Hoosier wheat crop, expected to be the largest In history with the exception ot 1943, would not be as good as had been expected. “In general, corn showed very good to excellent progress." the bulletin said, "but ample moisture from rains of the previous week caused some fields to become weedy. Many fields In southern counties are now laid by. “Wheat harvesting is well under way in the south, and is beginning in the north." the weather bureau reported. "Indications based on only a few scattered early reports are that yields average only fair to good, or hardly as good as had been expected. "Haying Is in general progress with some moisture damage reported to stands which were already cut down at the beginning of the week. The damp ground and generally high humidity did not provide ideal conditions for curing. Nevertheless, much hay was cured in fairly good condition and without rain damage during the latter part of the week" The weather bureau reported that other crops generally were in very good condition. "Commercially planted tomatoes are generally setting on. with a few fields near ripening stage In extreme southwestern counties. Oat harvesting continues in the north, but Is mostly completed in the southern part of the state. Yields are good to very good, but much short straw is reported. "Soybeans continue good to very good, and are making excellent pro gress. Gardens and truck continue very good. Raspberries have passed their peak and blackberries are ' nearing their peak season Pastures and meadows are mostly very good,” the report said. Reports Delivery Os Wheat In City i . Over s.<H>o bushels of wheat have been delivered to the Burk Elevator company from Adams county farmers in the first three days of this year's harvest. Avon Burk said today. The first load of wheat .was delivered Friday evening. [Nearly 3.000 bushels were delivered on the Fourth of July. Farmers have reported an average yield of better than 20 bushels of wheat to the acre. The wheat averages 57 pounds to the bushel, and contain about 12 percent moisture. This U a little drier than average. The price opened Saturday at *1.74 a bushel, but was *1.70 to *1.71 Tuesday, according to the moisture content ot the wheat sample. If the good weather continues, Burk expects most ot the wheat to be in by next week. Air passengers flying the English Channel may now drive their cars up a sloping gangway into a spe daily designed airplane, park them inside, and after the flight drive without Interruption to their hotels or other destination, according to British Railways. Awards for perfect driving records for from one to 14 years under the national safety driving rules are lieing made this year to a majority of the 20.000 vehicle drivers of Railway Express.
