I Creamed ml i I’s* on |' j LX..- —.—.... -7 Creamed Comments on the Sunday School Lesson. The Songbook 1 of the Bible. Psalm 1. Psalm 67, ' for Sunday. July 3. This quarter provides a study of the poetic literature contained in the book of the Psalms and the 1 place it had in the life and worship of the Hebrew people. with special reference to their expressions of faith in God’s wisdom and rigbteouness, acknowledgment of 1 God's glory and majesty, and confession of man a need for God. Th<- Lesson Committee. V.L "Blessed is the man that walketh not In the house of the ungodly, nor stand<-th in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of iwornful." Godly people are f ormally blessed or happy. A righteous insn does not make ungodly men his close companions; he doesj not pul himself in the way of ternp-i tation. Neither does he follow the, advfee of ungodly people. He is living a different realm, on a hlgh-1 er plane, with different aspirations I' and desires. V. 2. "But his delight is in the' law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." God's word is not something that ' bores the righteous man when he reads if. hut it is to him a delight. A delight in the Word of God is one of the surest proofs that one's, religious experience is real. V. 3. "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. 1 that brlngeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Because abundant water reaches the roots of a tree the frvilt is assured; withered leaves are a sign that the root.i are not receiving sufficient nourishment. The person who maintains fellowship with God will manifest evjden,|-s of spirituaj health and vigor. V.L "The ungodly are not so hut aje like the chaff which the wind driveth away." The wicked are destitute of spiritual vitality. V. 5. "Therefore the ungodly shall ' not stand In the judgment, nor sinners In the congregation of the I righteous." There is a day of judg-
There is nothing in all the world so brave as love; it will do and dare to the uttermost. It can outrun and outlast selfishness, ambition. hate. Whatever things are sweet and fair, love makes them to. Whether nubility, goodness, or heroism springs into life, love lies at the root. From the rose vine planted by the garden wall to the Christ uttering words of forgive- 1 ties* from the cross, it is all a love story. Clericus Says: Clerlcns says: "The picture of the righteous man. given in Psalm 1. is very tastnictive. In the first verse, we are Informed that lie is blessed or happy. Godly people are normally a happy people They have within them a source of happiness which the work! knows nothing of True fellowship with God is enough to make any one happy •nd to give hhn poise and Inspiration. even though at times bis work may be hard and his 'burdens great."

ment coming when the wicked will be condemned. The wicked are pictured as cut oft. even in this life, from religious fellowship and association with the faithful. V. 6. “For the laird knoweth the way of the righteous but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” "God Is said to know' those of whom he approves. The wicked he does not know' He refuses to acknowledge them.” V.L "God lie merciful unto us. and bless us, and cause his face to shine upon US." This verse is an echo ot an ancient priestly bene ilktloig — Numbers 6:24-26. Here Is found "face to shine upon us," a poetical way of describing a favorable attitude on God's part. V. 2. "That thy way may be known upon the earth, thy saving faith among all nations." Saving health is a result of the saving power of God. God is asked to bless his people in order that observing what God does for Israel, the surrounding heathen inay come to know him. V. 3. "Let the people praise thee. () God; let all the people praise thee" Here is implied universal salvation like that of the New Testament Great Commission. It is simply good manners to praise God. and all peoples ought to so recognize God as a loving Father. V.L "O let the nations he glad and sing for joy; for thou ahalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon the earth.” God is here pictured aa Interested in. and dealing righteously with nations other than the Hebrew. In this world we often are compelled to endure unrighteousness, but all things will be finally r lghted when God takes full charge of the peoples of all nations. V. 5. "Let the people praise thee. (> God; let all the people praise thee." This is a repetition of verse 3, The mark of poetry in the Psalms is parallelism or repititlon. Kometiines it is a repetition of thought and sometimes a repetition of the same words. V. 6. "Then shall the earth yield her increase, and God. even our own God. shall bless us.” Whenever true religion prevails, every thing partakes of its beneficent influence. V.7. "God shall bless us. and all the ends of the earth shall fear him." Here we have a vision ot the triumph of God when ail nations and all people shall worship, thus manftestlng the true fear of God.
LESSON PRAYER: Lesson prayer: We are grateful for the songbook, the Psalms, of the Hibie for they voice various religious experietp esv We pray for such blessed relationship with God and man that there will be constantly welling up in our nearts praises to God. We hear much about the brotherh<MKl of man, but we are doing so little about it. The church furnishes the greatest opportunity to develop that brotherhood which results if a body of Christians declare their fidelity to the Master, breathe common prayers unto a common Father, and realize that the burdens of one are the burdens of all, that whosoever injures his brother has been gnllty of treason
