July I—(UP) — Eight state mental institutions beban the new fiscal year today with a considerably brightened financial I picture The state budget committee auth- ! orized an additional allocation of $626,404 to hire extra personnel and to met increased operating expenses. Budget director Lytle Freehafer said the allocation was recommended by the Indiana council for mental health. He said the budget group did not cut the council’s recommendations a "penny " ! Indiana Drops 62 Members Os Faculty Forced To Operate On Reduced Budget Bloomington, Ind.. July 1 —(UP) —lndiana University officials today announced that 331 classes will be eliminated and 62 faculty members dropped so the school can operate under a reduced budget upproved by the Indiana general assembly. President Herman B. Wells said the legislature's 22 percent cut in Indiana's allotment from stale funds made the curtailment necessary. He said some service cnarges and tuition fees would be increased. The $7,050,000 granted by the legislature for each year of the next biennium wasn't enough to meet "increasing fixed costa for fuel, insurance. maintenance, and salary adjustments" unless some economies were effected, he said.
