(I'l*l A gun-like burst of rivets ally killed Alvin Koonce, 51. aufrom a riveting machine accldeutthorities said today. * Koonce was helping Elton Purdy rivet steel windows into a cement wall yesterday. The riveting gun' jammed. While Purdy was trying to fl* it. the gun went oft accidentally. I A burst of .22 caliber rivets hit Koontce in the chest. He died <*n route to a hospital. Bob McComb Signs Up As Stunt Pilot National Air Shows Sign Decatur Pilot Bob McComb, nationally known pilot and former operator of McComb Field in this city has been | signed up as a stunt pilot by the National Air Shows. Columbus, Ohio, and will appear in air shows throughout the country. McComb's first appearance under his contract will be at Clarksburg West Virginia on July 5 I Last Sunday McComb pinch hit for pilot Have Binns at the Richmond air shows. Binns cracked up earlier and was hospitalized. The show was staged a« advertised and proceeds given to Binns. McComb is a flier of many years experience and in 1045 staged the first big air show in Decatur. A huge crowd attended the exposition at McComb field, now part of the Decatur golf course. In January. McComb was a stunt flier in the All American air maneuvers held at Miami. Fla. and visitors there at that time saw him zoom and dive in a spectacular demonstration in the air. Berne Area Farmers Need Dry Weather Berne, June 28. — Fanners of this area are hoping for some dry weather for the next week or so. Heavy rain hit the area Saturday, and Sunday afternoon an inch and a half deluged the area. Monday afternoon. more rain fell and water was reported standing in some fields Much hay is reported spoiling and some farmers lost their entire* hay c rop Much corn is also in need of cultivation. The sheriff has received several complaints about persons not stopping for the new sign The arrest was made at 7:10 o’clock Monday evening. Recreation Planned At Pleasant Mills Persons interested In a community recreation night in Pleasant Mills will meet Wednesday night at k o'clock in the Pleasant .Mills hiidh school gymnasium. Benoit Johnson and Floyd Meyer, trustees, of St. Mary’s and Blue Creek townships, respectively, and Dennis Norman, county recreational director, will conduct the meeting.* which Is open to all. The county recreation board has set aside the money for the pro-, gram. A plan of action which includes all age groups will be set up by the committee. Telephone invitations have been extended to some interested parties concerning the meeting, but others are invited to attend and to bring their own Ideas with them. Norman, points out that "community recreation is one of the best ways to foster ( the community spirit." Monroe and , Geneva now have certain nights set , aside for recreational programs. Slight Damage Done In Auto Accident An automobile belonging to liar-' old Butler. Decatur, was damaged' Monday to the extent of $25 when I Butler opened the car door on the' street side. County Society In Recent Meeting The Adams county society for crippled children and adults met recently, with reports given by the various committees. Monroe Township Farmer Is Injured Herne. June 28. — Enos Girod. Monroe township farmer, suffered severe bruises to one leg and hip when kicked by a horse Saturday evening.
