Messamore Faces Long Prison Term Bonk Robber, Jail Breaker Sentenced Paducah, Ky., June 23, — (VP> William 0. Messamore, who I specialized In Jail breaks, today faced 28 years in a federal prison for robbing the Kevil, Ky., bank and later breaking out of the county jail here. Messamore and his two aids in the Kevil robbery were convicted by a jury in federal district court here yesterday afternoon and sentenced three hours later by Judge jHoy M. Sheibourne. I Messamore received a 25 year sentence for his part in the (19,000 hank robbery and a three year sentence on a guilty plea to the jail breaking charge. Partners in crime Charles Stegall, ixniisville, received a 25 year sentence, and Thomas C. Gore, Ixtuisville, received a 20-year term. None of the prisoners displayed any emotion when the sentences were imposed, but immediately after the verdict was returned Messamore hustled up to the judge to protest his instructions to the Jury. The prison to which they will send him has not been announced, but Atlanta was considered the likely one. Some sources indicated Messamore may be taken to Alcatraz. Messamore had three times escaped from police. Once he escaped by jumping from a hospital window in U>ulsvjl|n. but Ister was re.sptured and sentenced to life imprisonment in Eddyville for armed robbery. A little more than

three month, ago he escaped from the Corydon. Ind , jail, where ha was being questioned about the disappearance of three tenants from his English. Ind., farm. He made this escape after, he confessed the Kevil robbery. Then he locked the sheriff and a deputy in a cell, jumped out a second story window, rowed across the Ohio river, and was arrested 16 1 hours later in Brandenburg, Ky. Last week he escaped the Paducah jail by sawing out of his cell and slugging two attendants. He i was recaptured the following day, 1 huddled in a cold, empty, rain- ‘ swept Illinois Central coal car in 1 Princeton. ■I M ' i Broader Powers Given .
