1 Farms' Net Income Below Last Year Production Costs Off Only Slightly Washington June 14 — (('PI — The agriculture department estlmated today that farmers' net in- 1 come during the first half of 19491 "is running at least 10 percent below" the corresponding period; , of a year ago. year farm operators' not income for the year aa a whole was down about two percent from 'the record high sot in 1947. The department cm I ..-;?►<! that farms' cash receipts from marketings dftring January-June Would | be down only seven percent from | the corresponding p< riod last i year. The larger drop in net in-' come was attributed to the fact that production ''expenses appear <0 have dropped "tgily slightly.." For June alone, the department estimated cash receipts from farm marketings would be ddWn 15 per cent from the same month a year; ago. It forecast a drop of about •25 percent in receipt* from live’i stock and livestock products, with 'crop receipts showing a slight in-' , crease over June, 1948 levels. ,' The department estimated farm- i ers would receive about 87,400.- ( 000,000 from marketings of llve-j sto» k and livestock products during January-June this year. That’s; ' io percent less than they got dur- i Ing the first half of 1948. Crop receipts were estimated at $1,500,000,000, a boost of three percent over a year ago. This was attributed to a big boost In ma r k-' etings, since prices for crops are j averaging nearly 15 percent below* i a year ago. "Larger receipts from <-ern and Botton account' for mo t «f thei gain in total crop receipts," the department said, "in both cases.! lower prices have been more than offset by unusually large quanti- , I Iles sold or plac' d under (govern-j i ment price support) loan.
