Buy and wear a Poppy! o —-o —- And to think that today may be remembered only as the wedding day of Rita and Aly Kahn. o o These Communists are like ants. The alarm has been given that one of the Reds has been found in Buckingham Palace. o—o The Ketchikan Chronicle, in Alaska, has suggested that Alaska ought to import some Communists. The editor's idea is that if there were Communists there, Washington would pay enough attention to Alaska to find out what is going on there, what the territory needs, and the potentialities of Alaskan statehood. C Q. Saturday will Ut Poppy Day and the American Legion Auxiliary will conduct the annual poppy sale in memory of deceased veterans and in aid of those confined to hospitals. Let’s be generous in giving a free-will offering for one of the poppies. The proceeds are used to such good purposes that few contributions buy as much for your money as that offered for a poppy. o o In Marion county, as well as in other counties of the state, automobiles have an average assessed value about four times more than household goods. In other words autos are considered worth more than furniture, rugs and carpets, refrigerators and other household equipment. We believe autos are assessed too high, or furniture is too low. o o President Truman and former President Hoover attended funeral services for James V. Forrestall, former Defense Secretary, paying tribute to the man who as Mr. Truman said, "gave his life to bls country." Forrestall was buried in Arlington National

Cemetery, the final resting place reserved for those who served their country in uniform. Mr. Forrestall was a patriot of first rank, a public servant unmatched for devotion and sincerity. —o —o ■ The Reuther and Shelton Brothers evidently live a life of fear, in view of attacks made on them. The Reuthers have their enemies in labor ranks or among Communists, as one of the brothers charged, while the Sheltons date their troubles back to gambling feuds in Illinois. Victor Reuther, younger brother of Walter, who was wounded several months ago, lost an eye when fired on by an unknown enemy the other afternoon. The FBI may he able to crack the case and that should be done. Regardless of grievances, gang war must not be condoned in the United States. —o —o For the first time a party of explorers has made its way on foot to the Angel Falls, in eastern Venezuela near the Brazilian border. These falls were discovered in 1935 by an Aemrican flyer, Jimmie Angel, and are estimated to be 3,500 feet high. This would make them the highest falls in the world. The thickly grown jungle has prevented access to the falls heretofore, except by plane, and there is no landing place for a plane, which can only fly overhead for observation. The country around Angel Falls is still very imperfectly exploerd. Who knows what further wonders it may eventually reveal? o o Ah! A Premiere! An honor that comes only once in a life-time will be enjoyed in Decatur next Thursday. The world premiere of the film, “By Their Works,” a pictorial story of production lines in the plants of the General Electric Company and featuijng the Decatur General Electric Aeolian Choir, will be given. Admission is free, but admittance will be by ticket only. These tickets may be obtained from members of the choir or by application at the GE office. Let’s make it PREMIERE NIGHT a turn-out that demonstrates our civic interest and pride ip one of the city’s leading industrial organizations .... the activities and accomplishments of our fellow citizens. And you'll enjoy the concert numbers by the Aeolian Choir.

S. civil service commission. Further information and application forms may be obtained from Robert Frisinger in the post office. RITA HAYWORTH (Cont. From Page One) recorded the event. (In Vatican City, a high Vatican source said Rita's marriage to the Moslem Prince is “illicit in the eyes of the (Catholic) church and any children she may bear him will be "conceived in sin” as far as the Holy. See is concerned.) • Rita, who is a Cathol.c, had not asked the church for permission to marry Aly, who some day will inherit his father’s position as spiritual head of 12,000,000 Ismaili Moslems, the Vatican source said. (But a high Mohammedan source in Karachi, Pakistan, said th.at the marriage “is both permissable and correct uhder Moslem law.) It was a dream wedding in a dream setting for the dashing Moslem Prince and the red-haired dancing girl fron, Brooklyn For Rita it was the third wedding

and the second for the Prince. Vailauris’ 9,000 inhabitants celebrated the wedding with the same gay abandon as the newlyweds and their guesta and even Mayor Derigon, opposed by principle to such lavish display, was moved to feel the importance of the occasion. “Behave yourselves,” he snapped in French at the 100 photographers crowding the steps of the town hall. “Don't make fools of yourselves." Rita wore a gown of ice-blue with a hem that trailed to her slender ankles. She carried a bouquet of red and white American beauty roses. Aly came dressed in a black morning jacket and striped trousers. His natty bow tie was the same stripe as his trousers. He wore no hat. Twenty minutes after the ceremoney started the couple and the witnesses finished signing the register. Friends threw a few grains of rice, which is strictly rationed in France. The mayor shook hands with Rita and Aly. Derigon performed the civil ceremony with fitting solemnity.
