Jackets Close Out Season In 4-2 Victory The Decatur Yellow Jackets closed out one of their most successful basehall seasons Wednesday after noon, defeating the Huntington Vikings, 4-2, at Worthman field, giving the Jackets 11 victories in 12 games played this spring. In addition to going through the season with only one loss, the Jackets won the Northeastern In diana conference title as the only undefeated team in loop play. The Jackets won yesterday's sea son closer despite seven error? which kept Neil Thomas, Decatui hurler, in a jam nearly every inn ing. Decatur drew first blood by scor ing once in the second inning on a single by Thomas and Don Wefel’s double. The Jackets tallied an other singleton in the fourth when Wefel singled, took second on Huntington's only error of the game, stole third and scored on a passed ball. Decatur tallied what proved to be he winning runs in the sixth. Paul Busse opened the inning with a walk and was forced at second by Thomas, who stole second. Wefel walked and stole second and both runners scored on Jack Petrie’s single. Two Decatur errors gave Huntington its final run in the seventh. Following the ball game, Paul Busse and Dick Ogg were elected 'honorary co-captains of the squad. Letter winners, announced today by Coach Deane Dorwin, are: Seniors — Kenny Grant, Neil Thomas, Don Wefel, Dick Ogg, Paul Busse and Bob Lehrman. Decatur Moose Beat Roanoke, 6 To 0 Running wild in the first inning for five runs, the Decatur Moose made it five in a row without a setback in the Suburban league Wednesday night, blanking Roanoke, 6-0, at Roanoke. With his mates giving him this big lead, Harrah tossed another no-hit game, allowing only two runners to reach base safely, both on the pitcher’s own errors. McConnell’s hit was the only safety the Moose needed to open the game with five runs, Roanoke chipping in with three errors, a pair of fielder’s choices and a hit batsman. Hits by Harrah, Butcher and Shady accounted for Decatur's sixth tally in the sixth inning. The Moose will play an exhibition game at Convoy, 0., Sunday night at 8:30 o’clock, and will play Roanoke in another Suburban league tilt next Tuesday. Miniature Course To Open Saturday Night Decatur’s miniature golf course on West Adams street will open for the season Saturday evening, it was announced today. The course will be open each week-day night from 7 o'clock until 11:30 o'clock. The opening hour will be 12 noon on Saturdays and Sundays. Plans are underway for the formation of a league, Tad Smith, owner of the course announced, and several tournaments, open to the public, will be scheduled. New Valpo Coach Is Honored At Meeting Wilbur (Strings) Allen, recently appointed basketball coach at Valparaiso University, was guest of the Valpo Sportsman's club in Fort Wayne Wednesday evening. Clem's Lake Opens For Season Sunday Clem’s lake, successor to Shroyer lake, will be opened for the season Sunday, it was announced today by Mr. and Mrs. 'Walter Clem, negt owners of the resort. ; All concessions, including swimming, boating and fishing will be ’ open Sunday and will continue unj til Labor Day. Picnic ground reservations can be made by contacting the owners, it was announced. Open Softball Play At Berne Tuesday Berne, May 26 — The Berne softball league will swing into action next Tuesday evening, May 31. Fiveteams are entered in the league and two games will be played every Tuesday and Friday evenings.
