Electric Bills On Increase In Nation Slight Increase In Costs Is Reported Washington, May 19—(UP)— The federal power commission reported today that home electric light bills are going up in many cities. After surveying the 206 IJ. S. cities of 50,000 or more population, the commission determined that in 182 of them, electric bills have increased since Jan. 7, 1948. In the remaining 24, there have been decreases in power costs. This was disclosed in the 15th edition of the commission’s 35-page pamphlet, “Typical Electrical Bills —1949.” It said that a 25-year downward trend in costs of home lighting, appliances and refrigeration ended the first of last year, and that costs were increasing, but not too much. The typical residential bill for 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity increased from $3.64 to $3.68 per month during the year, the commission said.
